Removing the Obstacles to Faith

A Course in Miracles states that it does not aim at teaching the meaning of love, for that cannot be taught. What it does aim at teaching is how to remove the obstacles to the awareness of love’s presence, which is our natural inheritance.

The same approach and attitude can be taken toward the unfoldment of Spiritual Faith.

Faith is natural to us—inherent in what we are, as children (or expressions) of God. To ‘have’ spiritual Faith is not actually to have more of a ‘thing’ but simply to identify with our God-Nature, which is the Truth of what we are.

As William Warch wrote, in How To Use Your Twelve Gifts from God:
"Faith is not something you have or have not. It is your God-given ability to draw your good from the invisible to the visible."

To cultivate Faith, it is therefore not necessary to meditate for 15 hours a day. We can lay claim to this innate power simply by noticing the moments when we do not feel assurance in Go(o)d. When we find ourselves feeling doubtful, worried, anxious, or insecure about anything, we can begin by taking a few deep breaths (note that relaxation is the first step in Unity’s 5-step Prayer Method).

Next, with gentleness toward ourselves, we DENY the power of this fear, this perceived limitation over us. After all, key to identifying with what we are is disidentifying with what we are not—that is, limited, powerless, and separate.

Finally, we claim our inheritance by AFFIRMING Truth principles such as:

I have faith in my God Nature.

The Good I seek is seeking me.

I expect my Good, and I am ready now to receive it.

My Good is right here, right now.

I say YES to my Good.

Spiritually charged, we give thanks to the God within, as we relax deeper unto into these Truths.
