***The Recession: It doesnât necessary mean job hunting and career changes!
Written by David Couper, The Official Guide To Career Change
The odds are extremely high that if you watch TV, listen to the radio, or simply just converse with your peers, that by now you know that our country is currently in a recession. Unfortunately, the news of this recession has sent hundreds of thousands; perhaps even millions of people into a state of panic. Everyone thinks that they are going to lose their jobs. Everyone thinks that they will be left out in the cold and forced to undergo a complete career change in order to find another job. Also, everyone seems to think that all of these job losses and career changes are basically going to cause our country to implode.
For one, the news media continues to pound it into our heads each and everyday that we should be fearing for our lives right now, that if we keep from losing our jobs, hours will still be slashed considerably and we won’t have enough money to support ourselves and our families. In reality, this could not be further from the truth.
Stop and think about it. Take a minute to breathe and consider the facts of what is really going on. Yes, we may happen to be in recession right now, but that doesn’t mean you need to be changing careers just to ensure you will have a job. The odds are that you probably won’t even really see that much effect on your finances or your home life as a result of this recession.
Sure, a career transition is great for some people; it gives them an opportunity to go after what they really want to do. However, our economy will not force you into that. Sure, people have lost their jobs, but not every one of these losses had a connection to the recession. There have been a few businesses that went out of business, but when you really think about it, there are millions more who are doing just fine, and even thriving in this time period.
The bottom line here is that you simply must focus on being positive! Don’t buy into the negative stories that you hear on the news because you are only getting one side of the story. These days, most news shows have a basis in politics, and many of these shows focus on the worst parts about what is going on in our country, without ever talking about how much success is still to be had. A recession doesn’t change who you are or the abilities that you have. What you must do is to trust in yourself and in your abilities, and roll with the punches as they come.
The very best thing that you can do is to keep the focus on your family and yourself. The economy will sort itself out just like it has many other times throughout the years. So stay positive and don’t even think about panicking! If everyone else did the same thing, the entire country would be in a great position.
