Written by Rob Smith
When choosing a broadband service, you need to be careful on the following counts -
Presence of Broadband providers in your area – Since there many providers offering you broadband service, choosing the most suitable one is important. For this you have to run a speed test and even check out with other local residents about reliable service providers in UK. A few popular broadband providers include BT internet, Demon, AOL, Orange Broadband, BE Broadband, Talk Talk, Broadband, Sky Broadband and Virgin Media .
rnBroadband Technology – The broadband technology is yet another important determining factor because the speed of the broadband is primarily dependent on this. Broadband supplied through ADSL is likely to be slower than that supplied through fibre optic broadband. This is because ADSL is supplied through the telephone network and depends upon how far you are located from the telephone exchange and also on the number of users sharing the same connection. BT, BE and Orange are ADSL broadband providers.
The Broadband Speed – By talking of broadband speed, one refers to the download speed at which you can download images, music albums, videos and much more through the Internet. If you can download things at faster speeds, you can make better use of your time as well broadband connection. At the same time, for uploading you do require respectable speeds which allow you to upload your data and get going on other tasks. Fibre Optic Broadband is known to be much faster than ADSL broadband and hence preferred by most users. Virgin Media Broadband and BT Infinity are known to provide better speeds in the range of 40 Mbps – 100 Mbps. On the other hand, Sky Broadband and BT Total Broadband offer speeds up to 20 Mbps.
Usage Limits – The usage limits are equally important for they determine how much you can download within the subscription period. In case you download extra data, you will have to bear the extra charges which prove expensive at times. For heavy internet users unlimited download packages work the best while regular to medium users, a download range of 2 GB – 10 GB and slightly more should be quite sufficient. Sky Broadband Everyday offers a usage limited of 2GB while Sky Broadband Unlimited has no limits on downloads. Similarly Virgin Media has no limits across all its broadband packages. On the other hand depending upon the BT internet package you go for, you can enjoy downloads up to 10 GB, 40 GB and even unlimited downloads.
The broadband packages on offer are convenient and affordable for they provide phone and TV services in the same bundle. Also, do remember to check out the bargain offers and discounts offered on a regular basis which at times prove useful when you join a broadband provider or switch to a better broadband deal.
These are few of the important points you need to bear in mind and check these out thoroughly before you join any one broadband provider.
