They are several reasons why they are considered as high risk type of business. One is the fact that they are prone to charge backs, fraud, refund and even hacking. Let us fact that if you are a high risk merchant, you would have a difficulty in your application and things would be quite expensive. In general, they will not provide them with the solution they need and they charge very high fees because of the risks involved in credit card processing. Fortunately if you do a thorough research, you can find that one that can offer high risk merchant account. These providers normally have relationship with a lot of banks, so they are like willing to accommodate the risks involved in running a high risk type of business. Because of the competition, rates are much lower compared to banks. If you look for a high risk merchant account provider, most of them would charge for application fees that can reach up to a thousand dollars. There are also transaction fees that are charge on a flat rate. There is also a discount rate which is a percentage of the transaction amount and usually it could start from 3%. This rate could be higher for high risk merchant. There are other fees that business owners should pay for like monthly statements, fraud protection fees, refunds and even charge backs fees.
