A custom built wine cellar in the home is not difficult. Perfect storage circumstances for wine are easy. The bottles must be stored in humidity no less than 70 per cent, the temperature 52-57 degrees Fahrenheit lying undisturbed and horizontally, a vibration-free dark environment. If one had the freedom of being able to carry out structure alterations, our personal preference would be a location with easy access from the dining room or living room.

Below some tips are given on storing your wine.

Temperature:

• Wines will be well stored at temperatures as high as 68 degrees Fahrenheit, and at times even a few degrees high, but they will mature much faster.
• Preferably cellar temperature ranges from 42 degrees to 57 degrees Fahrenheit
• The most significant thing in storing wine: don’t expose bottles to tremendous temperature fluctuations

Humidity:

• To prevent the corks from drying out store wines on their sides
• The corks will dry out if you store wines in the refrigerator for long periods
• Wines don’t like extremely low humidity

Atmosphere:

• There are many types of wine racks available for sale that will keep the wine in the proper storage position and keep your wine bottles from getting broke. It is best to store the wines on beautiful spiral cellars that look luxurious.

Lights:

• Keep away from the bright light which ruins the wine.
• Use normal LED lamps. Sufficient lighting helps to place bottles.
• Some structure of shelving and racking is desirable. It depends on whether it is a working cellar or a showcase. The choice is very personal.
• There are designer built racks of hardwood which are very expensive and which will provide an impressive display.

Most new residential homes, in addition to the new apartment building, have contemporary wine cellar designs. Here you can find some of the popular designs of the wine cellar.

• Wine cellar with glass door:

The size of the cellar is probably to be the topic of never-ending discussion within your family. You should choose for the largest probable room you can dedicate to it. Think of the number of bottles you would like to keep. However, keep away from storing strong smelling foods.

• Wine cellar made with brick:

It is recommended to install the cellar in the below-ground option. Digging a big hole in the garden outside or under your living room is a major construction job. This is not to be carelessly undertaken. However, the benefit of underneath spiral cellars is that the extra insulation provided by the soil around the four sides and under the ground considerably reduces the power cost keeping the cellar cold.

• Subfloor wine cellar:

The major disadvantage of ground cellars is water leaking into the cellar. It is less of a problem, if you are on high ground, but not eliminated entirely.

• Wine cellar made with wood:

Insulation of the floor is mandatory if your cellar is on an upper floor. Check the floor loading factor, for upper floor cellars. To take very heavy loads, domestic apartments are not built. Structural cracks are not desirable, whether it is you or your neighbour. Cover the insulation panels with plywood which can minimize breakage.

Don’t store wine in a refrigerator:

For storing and ageing wine standard, refrigeration is not appropriate. It causes the wine to oxidize and the cork to shrink. It makes the cork dry. You may look for a cellar having cooling unit to keep the temperature under control, but truning refriegerator into a storage is not good for your wine collection.

Store wine on the cold cellar in your basement:

You might have manageable conditions for storage if there has no or little fluctuation, and the temperature is below 65 degrees and above 50 degrees. Insulating the basement will also help. It is wise to install a cooling unit to keep a constant temperature.

Bottom Line:

Hire only the qualified and efficient contractors. Now, you have known the fact and ways to store your wine. Use cellar, if you have several age-worthy valuable bottles. The safety of your wine should always be the top priority when it comes to storage. Not taking good care will finish up harming your most precious wines.
