A Great Web to Print SEO Plan

I was about to write off the tail end of The Office, Season 7, as a show that was ready to sink without the character of Michael Scott, but now I am rethinking that. The script was actually pretty funny, especially when it came to interviewing the management candidates. The funniest conversation came from Will Arnetts character, who told the search committee that he had a 3-Part Plan for ramping up profits, but had no intention of sharing it. If you hire me, you get the plan, he told them. However, he did agree to giving them part 3 of part 2. Good comedy writing. It made me laugh, but it also made me draw a parallel comparison between this and sharing SEO advice. Truthfully, no SEO expert will divulge the entire SEO plan, because each expert has had to learn what does work and what does not work the hard way, over months and years of efforts. Building up the right kind of traffic to a search optimized website requires continual, trackable, hard work and few search professionals are willing to have their inside knowledge be a completely open book. True, there are best practices that we all know and adhere to. Also true that good results are the result of labor, and not because we know secrets that others do not. For my PrintSites customers, I spend a great deal of time optimizing their web storefronts. In my new series for the PrintSites newsletter, I will begin sharing some of the parts of a great SEO Plan for web to print providers. Please feel free to visit and sign up for our newsletter so you can catch many of the parts. Of course, I cannot tell you the entire plan, but if you join PrintSites, you get the whole plan. The first SEO tip I have for webprint pros is this: be sure your web presence has back end fields for metadata. Metadata is data about other data. In other words, this bit of data tells the web crawlers what they will find on a particular web page. Webprint pros who have a website that they want found by online print customers through search, need to first be found by the web crawlers. They will index their web pages with the goal of placing them on a Google results page. At PrintSites, we know the value of metadata, and have fields in our free website designs, so that our users can optimize their new storefronts for great search results, with or without my SEO expertise.
