If you have been seeking a job that allows you to use all your experience as a childcare giver, you should know that if you are experienced in running a home, are really organized, and have a natural love for kids, your skills are highly valued and very much in demand. Qualified and experienced nannies are very often needed by families who work outside the home, and it is possible to earn a substantial income just by doing what comes naturally. Some women are born caregivers, and have the ability to make running a household look effortless. For a working mother, these qualities can be a godsend. Just knowing she has someone who can function in the role of a “surrogate” mom can make her workday much less stress filled. A top priority for any working mother is to be able to have someone she can trust to take over the day-to-day running of her busy household, and also provide loving care for her children. Babysitters often do not work out as expected, can sometimes be a little unreliable, or too young to instill complete confidence. A nanny, however, many times is a person who has years of experience, may have already raised her own children, and knows exactly how to run a household efficiently and smoothly because she has done it already. There may be different reasons for you to be job-hunting at this time. You may simply want to get out into the world after raising your own family, you might miss the interaction with young children if your own are gone, or you may just want to contribute financially. Whatever the reason, you already have the experience and qualifications many working parents are looking for. It often gets to be very overwhelming to keep up with the daily tasks that need to be done and try to raise a growing family while maintaining a full-time job. Working moms need assistance, and would welcome the opportunity to hire you once you get the word out that you are hoping to be employed as a nanny. Job opportunities in this particular field are limitless, although your location may have an effect on how quickly you can find a position. Obviously, the larger the area, the more need there will be, but that doesn’t mean that you won’t find a nanny position in a smaller location. Two income families have become the norm lately, so your chances of finding a job are very good no matter where you live. How do you start the job search? Well, no one is going to know you are available if you don’t get the word out some way or another, and to do this you have to advertise your services. Networking is an excellent way to let people know, or find out about job availability. Talk to your friends, neighbors and relatives. Ask them to keep their ears open and to let you know if they hear of anyone who is looking for a nanny. Sometimes this method works better than any advertising you can do. People just seem to know these things, especially if they are already working in the same profession. They tell a friend, who in turn tells another friend, and so on. Before you know it, everybody knows that you are looking. You can also register with an online nanny service and set up a profile for yourself. List your experience and qualifications, add a picture of yourself, and give a brief description of why you would like to work as a nanny. If you have already raised a family, make sure to include that information, as well. You may be required to pay a small registration fee and have a background check done before you can register, but that just increases your chances of being interviewed and hired. Families who are seeking nanny services can go to the site, view the candidates and their profiles, and request contact information from the site. This doesn’t mean that you are hired, however. You still have to meet the employer and have an interview or two. The family may also do a background check of their own, and that is perfectly normal. It’s all part of the hiring process, especially in light of the fact that you will be responsible for their children and left alone in their home. If this type of employment sounds like it was tailor-made for you, find out more about what is required, research nanny websites, and start to get the word out right away. It’s a great way to get out of the home, and a very satisfying form of work.
