A Marriage built by Christ
Written by Jason Beckler owner www.ePhaith.com
Ah marriage, the institute that drives people to divorce…or is the blame on the individual…Or the couple who enter into the bonds of marriage? In any case, there is not a marriage performed under the eyes of God that is doomed to fail. It is the actions (sins) within a marriage that will bring the house down.
There are too many people (especially women) who have this fairytale view of marriage and what it all means. Marriage takes work…lots of back-breaking, psychological, emotional and heartfelt work! The only job in life harder than marriage is being a parent. The fairytale thought of marriage ends the first week back from the honeymoon. Men have a tendency to make sure this reality comes to pass.
The partnership of marriage is just as important as any brokered business deal costing millions. Selfishness, anger, bitterness, sadness and an unforgiving spirit will end a marriage before it ever has a chance to root. In far too many cases couples do not even try to mend the damages they have both contributed to a failing bond. Building a marriage with Christ can help still the tormented waters of the troubled marriage.
These words from Christ ring true today: Mark 10:11 And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her: Mark 10:12 and if she herself shall put away her husband, and marry another, she committeth adultery.
In the world today our court system has made it entirely too easy to choose divorce over reconciliation. I understand that in some cases divorce is the right option, unfaithfulness, psychological, emotional and physical abuses all need to be considered grounds for divorce. Staying in a marriage, especially one with children, that has these types of abuses only teaches your children a “norm” that is not normal. The type of marriage the parents have will be close to the type of marriage the children have. Of course the children will have their own falters in marriage regardless of how “normal” their parents’ marriage was/is.
Keeping Christ in your relationship will aid any marriage to be the best. We are human and will still falter because of sin, but at least there is the ‘Rock of Salvation” we can stand upon as a Christian and weather any relationship storm that comes our way…but only if we keep Christ in the heart of our marriage.
