A Realistic Picture Of Offshore Investing
Written by Jerome George Sherman
Offshore investment opportunities have taken more than their fair share of scrutiny, negative media attention and slander, and a skewed view in the public eye. Not many investors have taken their time to look at the values associated with offshore investment opportunities largely due to all this undeserved negative attention. While no investment anywhere in the world that falls under any single category of investment opportunities is going to be 100% perfection with zero risk and immediate and immaculate growth, offshore investment opportunities are a sound option for those seeking a solid growth ROI and a more than satisfactory APR. n The media attention that has given offshore investment opportunities such a bad name has often pointed the finger at those who use offshore banks for the purposes of hiding money or laundering money for criminal acts. The media has casually neglected to mention that there is a huge difference between stashing money in an offshore account to prevent people from knowing its presence and earning interest on an investment that is not limited to the same restrictions the United States puts on investors and investments.
The laws governing United States citizens have changed over the past few years when it comes to the citizen’s right taking their money out of the country. While laws change dramatically and quickly and all US and foreign investors should consult an appropriate atto
ey and never read investment or tax law information over the internet in lieu of professional advice, the US government has not been able to propose any type of current laws that restrict a US national from investing in foreign markets. It has limited amounts and quantified tax laws to include all world wide income (hence eliminating the ever popular term; tax haven) but it has not stopped the legal process of moving funds into an offshore account for the purposes of investing. n Offshore investment opportunities are not only good for the savvy investor, but they are also healthy for the world wide economy. There are those who believe that the world wide economy has little impact on the economy of the United States, but this is not so. There is a significant and enduring impact on the US economy as it relates to the global economy. Despite what some media sources would have Americans believe, we are more tied into the global economy than we realize. By utilizing some of the better offshore investment opportunities for our own personal gain, we are also able to put our two cents in, so to speak, toward the global economy. This becomes a win—win situation for everyone involved.
So, if offshore investment opportunities are so fabulous, why haven’t more people heard good things about them and why all the negative media attention and publicity? Some people would answer that with a very long and involved government conspiracy angle, which is partially true. Just like any business, our country likes to protect its assets and its resources. If you walk into a store to purchase a bottle of soda, the store manager isn’t likely to tell you that you can get the very same bottle of soda two doors down for about half the price. Investments directly affect the governmental pocketbook, and thus they are not all that interested in sending you elsewhere for a better deal. Their “advertisement venue” just happens to be the media.
Whether you completely buy into everything that is said about offshore investment opportunities or not, as an investor you owe it to yourself to at least check out the facts. The facts speak for themselves.
