A Return to Abundance - Restoring Balance
Written by Maria Perry
If we didn't know it before, it is evident now that the U.S. and global financial systems are severely out of balance. How did we get here? How much worse will it get? What can we do to fix it?
The brightest minds in the world are examining these questions, as we speak. I receive daily emails from The University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business, where I obtained my MBA degree 18 years ago. This month, the school initiated a special new email alert containing up-to-the-minute news and opinions from Chicago scholars. I struggle to read past the first few sentences because they are so enmeshed in the 3-D world and its assumptions about free markets, time-honored governmental tools for influencing the economy and theories about supply and demand.
To understand what happened, we need a higher perspective - a higher sense - of humanity, nature, the planet, and its place in the universe. From this higher vantage point, it is clear that we have been living with a system that rewards greed at any cost, funnels the bulk of our collective wealth into the hands of a few, and severely disempowers the majority of the population. It was doomed to fail. And so it is. The scales are so unbalanced that the entire apparatus is toppling over.
Spiritual leaders and channelers have predicted such a crisis for years. And it's not over by a long shot. The current crisis is a credit crunch threatening the viability of the U.S. banking system. Other financial systems are sure to follow: the stock market, the bond market, the insurance industry, corporate structures and the U.S. government. As people continue to flee toward perceived "safety", they will come to understand that hoarding is not the way of the new earth. Sharing is the way to safety. Sharing restores balance by redistributing wealth. Sharing also creates flow, movement. Sharing frees resources to be applied where they are needed in the now. In this moment, there is enough for everyone. You might have to ask for help, and that's okay. You might be surprised at what shows up for you when you do.
The illusion of lack is self-reinforcing because we have been taught to save for a rainy day. To purchase insurance policies, just in case the unthinkable happens. The fear of future lack creates the illusion of lack in the present. If you have $1 million saved for retirement, you have created lack in the present. Think of how many people could be helped if you released those funds into the flow of the now moment, trusting that others would do the same if you actually were to experience the future lack that you fear.
We all chose to be here on earth for this amazing moment of death, followed by rebirth. Some of us are awake, holding the light for those who are waking now, those who are living their worst fears of lack, of abandonment, and of humiliation. We will all learn that we are in it together and as long as we have each other, we have enough.
