Goals are the most powerful driving force in your life. When you stop setting goals, you stop enjoying all of the amazing rewards life has to offer you. I know this first hand. In 1999, my wife was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Her oncologist instructed me to keep her positive. I helped her to set and accomplish life-changing goals.

Goals allowed us to look beyond our temporary hardships and set-backs, and allowed us to start focusing on a greater life. We realized that we could always control two things: our thoughts and our actions! We made the choice to stay on track with our goals. Three months ago, my wife was diagnosed again, this time with breast cancer.
Again, we controlled our thoughts and our actions. We began to set and accomplish more goals. Never allow your circumstances to hold you back. Force them to push you to a greater life! Regardless of what you are going through, now is the time to set new goals.

In just ten days, the New Year will be here. What are you doing to prepare for a successful year? Most people waste time setting New Year’s Resolutions. Yes, I said waste time! Each year, New Year’s Resolutions are set, but never achieved. People set them in December, start them in January, and forget about them in February. Your goals are too important to repeat this cycle.

This year, set your New Year’s Goals. Why goals? Because goals inspire! They cause you to focus on what is important in your life. A resolution is nothing more than an attempt to fix something, to resolve it. That’s not fun! Goals create hope, momentum, and inspire you to take action.

Goals have an amazing way of adding fulfillment to your life. They cause you to get up in the morning with excitement. No matter what circumstances you face, you will always find a way to accomplish important goals.

Write down three goals that will allow you to have a greater life. Spend a few minutes thinking about the goals that are most important to you. To take your goals beyond the “Resolution” phase, write down the reasons for accomplishing each goal. Strong reasons are a critical component to accomplishing your goals. A goal without a reason is like a car without an engine.

Those are the first two steps for accomplishing your goals. You can learn more about the remaining steps in my book The GOAL Formula. This year, give yourself the gift of accomplishing any goal you desire – no matter what circumstances you face!
