It is often said that information is power, and in Forex, or foreign currency trading, that is truer than normal. Analysing information and trends, and then acting on that information, is key to a profitable future in the Forex markets. Analysing trends, or technical analysis, is one powerful way you can get an idea about the future of the currency markets.

Trend analysis has been around for hundreds of years, but until recently only institutional investors or large corporations had access to the information in a timely manner. By the time the individual investor gathered the information from newspapers and other sources, read it all and analysed it, the moment for profitable investment had long since passed.

Today we have computers and the internet bringing us instant information and, in many cases, analysing that data for us and helping us reach valid conclusions, enabling us to carry out online forex trading. Even better, these trends can be displayed in the format that makes the most sense to the trader, whether that is bar charts, pie charts, Fibonacci lines or other methods. You choose the method that helps you best see the trends, and begin your analysis there.

When analysing trends you want to identify when the current trend is ending and another beginning. This helps you invest at the “turn” of the market, and realise your profit at the correct moment. For example, when an upward trend is ending, it is time for you to sell that currency and invest it into another currency that is ending a downward trend. At that point you can lock in the greatest profit.
