Anti Slip Floor Coating
Written by James Mcgillvry
There are some surfaces that lose their grip as soon as a liquid is spilt but an epoxy resin anti slip floor coating, especially if ribbed on slopes for vehicle grip, provides high levels of safety for staff and customers.
Slip sliding away
A large cash and carry warehouse has people and forklift trucks moving up and down aisles where crates of goods are stacked high up ensuring that the slogan – stack ’em high, sell ’em cheap - still has a place in our world today. Wherever there are people, there are accidents and sometimes, despite the best will in the world, when it comes to safety, liquids will spill out over floors which can cause a big problem, especially if it’s where people walk. If the floor does not have an anti slip floor coating, even when the liquid is cleaned up and the floor appears to be dry, there can still have microscopic properties of the liquid which often act like tiny ball bearings. Fortunately, warehouses, supermarkets, hospitals and industrial complexes have understood the valuable properties that make up epoxy flooring coatings; the greatest, manufactured flooring to be produced in the 20th century and it has not been surpassed since although the chemical mix of industrial coatings is always being refined.
Seeing red
Epoxy floor coatings are incredibly flexible in so many ways and far surpass concrete as a surface. It may be that a large complex is built that requires particular zones to be highlighted; this is where epoxy surfaces really come into their own as the resin can be created in a number of colours so that people can easily see which zone they are in. Also, the smooth qualities of the flooring enable particular hazard transfers to be applied so that people have extra warning of an area of specific danger, perhaps where the floor drops away enabling a mechanic to work in comfort underneath a large vehicle such as a bus or lorry.
Working around you
Industrial flooring UK understands that organisations cannot afford to halt their business whilst a new floor is being laid. One of the particular merits of epoxy and urethane floors is that the companies that lay the resin are used to working hours that suit their clients, which may include working through weekends and through the night. Laying a resin floor is a skilled process but it is also quick thanks to the unique properties of the resin, which is first a liquid and then hardens to become a beautifully smooth surface that is comfortable to walk on and yet has wonderful anti slip properties.
A feature of the resin that is not always appreciated is its insulating properties; when laid over a concrete surface the resin acts as a blanket that keeps out the cold, ensuring that workers, even in particularly cold environments, do not feel the classic icy chill through the soles of their shoes that is often so prevalent with other flooring surfaces. Ultimately, it is always health and safety that matter most to business and it is the anti slip floor coating of resin that makes the surface so appealing whether it is in a hospital, a car plant or a cash and carry warehouse.
