Antiperspirants - the best bet against excessive sweating?
Written by Nikon Stream
Usually each one of us does have some amount of sweating under the armpits, on the face, the palms, the soles and a little more on the back and the chest if we perform rigorous physical exercises. Some people though, suffer from profuse sweating irrespective of physical exertion or not. These people are said to suffer from a condition called hyperhidrosis, simply known as excessive sweating.
How to know if you suffer from excessive sweating?
If you have hyperhidrosis your sweat glands would be hyperactive and produce more sweat than your body generally needed in order to regulate the body temperature. This is when you notice sweat stains on your clothes in certain places such as the underarms and have clammy and wet palms, soles and scalp to the extent that you may want to change your clothing few times a day to avoid smelling bad or looking ugly with sweat stains on your clothes.
Furthermore if you suffer from hyperhidrosis they say that you sweat uncontrollably in spite of being seated indoors or in an air-conditioned environment.
In any case it should be noted that excessive sweating is often associated with unpleasant body odor.
Is there any treatment against excessive sweating?
According to an independent survey, less than half of the people suffering from hyperhidrosis do not know that this is a problem with which they could draw on medical attention. If you notice that you sweat excessively, you would be well advised to visit your doctor or better yet your dermatologist or endocrinologist.
Although there are several treatments available today which help against excessive sweating it is sometimes believed that hayperhidrosis is a problem that only can be cured by a surgery called the endoscopic transthoracic surgery (ETS). An ETS means to remove the nerve/s that stimulate the sweat glands or the removal of the hyperactive sweat glands per se. It may actually sound to be the best remedy for the problem but there are complications associated with the surgery and many people complain of reoccurance of the problem. In addtion the surgery is quite expensive. In any case a surgery surgery should be the last resort for this problem.
Otherwise there are oral drugs, which are prescribed in some circumstances. The oral prescription medications against sweating are formulated to prevent stimulation of the sweat glands what should help to control the excessive sweating.
Another solution against the problem of excessive sweating are antiperspirants. Antipersoirants are the most widely used preparations against excessive sweating. The use of a strong antiperspirant can help people with hyperhidrosis.
It should be remembered that excessive facial and underarm sweating could hamper people severely in their social interactions because of the embarrassment sweating brings. While doctors may advice for a surgery it should be taken with a pinch of salt. You can always draw on antiperspirants which are the safest bet to control the sweating.
