For any term paper to fulfill the APA writing style, there are several rules or guidelines that need to be adhered to. The rules can be general, citation rules or quotation rules. For any APA style papers the general rules include: setting to a 1 inch of all margins around the paper. This serves as a key feature in identifying the format used. The major disadvantage is that the MLA format also uses a 1 inch margin through out the entire paper. Other factors of APA style papers that need be looked out for to avoid confusion are, the header should be ½ an inch from top left corner and so are the footers from the bottom. A default font size of 12 pt Times New Romans is used unless otherwise stated. The third person is used to for APA style papers coupled with an active voice.. In addition the usage of philosophical or poetic thoughts must be avoided. The major components in the format of an APA style papers comprise an introduction, an abstract and body and conclusions and references sections. References are provided at the end of each paper with the word reference centered and bold. The title of the APA style papers must be on the topmost corner at the left hand, with a running head provided at the top left of any APA style papers as a shorter version of the title it must appear on all subsequent pages on the top right of the page. On the second page of and APA style papers is the Abstract with the word abstract centered followed by of less than 100 words summary of the APA paper. The body to the essay should use straight forward language with properly cited sources. To quote any source within the text in the body of the APA style papers, one should include the last name of author, the publication year as well as the number of the page where relevant information was obtained provided in parenthesis. Proper citation within text is one of the important steps any writer can take to avoid plagiarism. The sources are cited when paraphrasing someone else’s work the page number in this case isn’t all important hence only the author and the year of publication to the paper are important. In the reference list one needs to include the detailed information on every source cited in the paper. The word reference should be centered on the top of a new page from which the reference list. Plagiarism must be avoided at all cost by ensuring that proper strategies or software is available to check and detect any form of plagiarism in any give
APA style paper. The reference list must also be double-spaced. The general format to reference books is one that has last name, first name, into parenthesis the year of publication. Period then title of the work under study. Location of publication: and finally the publishers name. the text in APA style papers must be left aligned with a straight left margin and a ragged right margin, paragraphs in the text must have the first line indented five spaces from the left margin of the work in APA style papers writing. APA style papers have tables with no vertical lines.
