Practically everybody is familiar with what a wind turbine is and how they produce energy, but for those whom don't know I will explain. A normal wind turbine is a tall tower that has blades attached to a rotor. As the giant propeller is spun by the wind, the rotor inside rotates to produce electricity. Inside the electrical generator are many magnets and lots of copper wire, which creates electricity. There's almost nothing complex about this sort of generator.

There has to be sufficient wind to move the blades for these power generators to create electricity. Wind is more potent higher up in the sky, which is why wind turbines are rather tall, at approximately 30 meters. This height enables the rotor to receive more exposure to the wind and thus create far more electricity. Of course it goes without saying that without enough wind, no power will be made. Before an installation of turbines is built, thorough analysis of wind patterns for the projected site is reviewed. This has a tendency to mean they are situated along coastlines where it is usually very windy. Consistent winds does not always mean that they consistently blow from the same exact direction. However the design is extremely clever and they are built so that the rotor turns towards the wind, enabling them to capture the wind from any direction.

Wind turbines can produce quite a lot of energy; one turbine can generate electricity for one house, or they can be used to power machinery which in turn does something like grinding wheat. When there's no wind, a battery backup installation is used to meet electrical needs. One conce
is the number of years required for the installation costs to be recovered in power savings. In areas with continual winds, turbines can easily create energy around the clock. Solar panels can not function in the dark while wind turbines can. Another excellent thing about wind turbines is that they're eco-friendly as they produce zero pollution. More turbines could reduce the causes of global warming which in turn threaten the planet nowadays. Harnessing the strength of the wind is utilizing a truly renewable resource. This indicates that turbines will usually be able to produce electrical power if they are located in high wind areas.

As with nearly anything there are some down sides of implementing wind turbines for energy. They're definitely not a pretty sight, especially because they're so massive. Many governing bodies choose to put wind turbines on coast areas and out to sea due to the large amounts of wind in these particular areas, but many people grumble saying that they blight the surroundings. They are also fairly noisy due to the rotor producing sound as it rotates. Wildlife aficionados complain that birds and bats are killed by them. Bats in particular are susceptible, because their sonar system is interrupted by the rapid motion in the air. There are no statistics on how often this happens, nonetheless.

Wind turbines definitely seem to be a excellent source of energy, but of course there are drawbacks like with anything. They can play a primary role in our upcoming energy plans if they are used carefully.
