Are You in a Narcissistic Relationship?
Written by Amy Adam
To ascertain whether you are in a narcissistic relationship, you can ponder these following questions, which will help you more easily identify the classic symptoms of a narcissistic relationship.
1:Do you feel like you are in a relationship with a person who twisting andturns facts, refuses to stay on topic when having disagreements and is not accountable for their actions? There is a great deal of confusion, pain and frustration experienced by the non-narcissistic partner in a narcissistic relationship, because narcissists refuse to remain on topic, will falsify facts, bring in unrelated information and refuse to take responsibility for their immature and evasive behaviour.
2:Does the person that you are having a relationship with continually blame you for what they do themself?Narcissistic relationships all have the dynamic of the narcissist projecting blame on to their partner. If you are in a narcissistic relationship, you will be accused of being unloving, materialistic, a poor partner, untrustworthy, adulterous – and in fact anything that the narcissist is or does which is unsavoury.
3:Do you find yourself the target of malicious acts and vengeance? If you are in a narcissistic relationship you will receive punishment from the narcissist that is so nasty that it leaves you reeling. Within your narcissistic relationship you will receive acts of violence mentally, emotionally, financially, and possibly physically. The narcissist is extremely capable of treating you like the enemy when not getting his or her own way.
4:Does your partner attack your credibility with smear campaigns? One of the most unpleasant aspects of narcissistic relationships is that the narcissist will try to undermine your credibility in order to appear ‘right’, exact power over you and deplete your allegiances with others. This leaves the non-narcissistic partner feeling deeply incensed and betrayed that their love partner slanders them prolifically.
5:Is your partner capable of pathological lying? Narcissists are experts at lying, and in extreme cases the narcissist may not be able todifferentiate between fantasy and fiction. This makes it very hard to detect a narcissist’s lies, until they become obvious. Within a narcissistic relationship, narcissists will adamantly deny or diverge from being caught out lying, or will use self-righteous justifications for why they did it. If you are in a narcissistic relationship, you will be aware that he or she is a pathological liar, and you will feel so confused, unsafe and frustrated that you will feel like you are losing your mind.
