In Napoleon Hill's great book "Laws of Success" he talks about self-control as being one of the most important qualities any successful person can possess. His premise is that when you can control your emotions you can control any situation. But in order to control your emotions, you first have to know how to control your thoughts.

Hill states:

"No other animal has ever been endowed with such self-control as you possess. You have been endowed with the power to use he most highly organized form of energy known to man, that of thought. It is not improbable that thought is the closest connecting link there is between the material, physical things of this world and the world of Divinity."

"You not only have the power to think, but what is a thousand time more important still, you have the power to control your thoughts and direct them to do your bidding." - Napoleon Hill

Isn't it a great comfort to know that no matter where you are in your personal evolution, you can change your life's direction at any time by controlling your thoughts? How often do you actually do that? Do you deliberately direct your thoughts to "do your bidding?" Most of us don't. In fact we usually don't even think about it.

So let me ask you this: Do you know what percentage of time you spend each day thinking about your desires and working on plans to achieve them as opposed to thinking about how you are going to pay the bills or afford a vacation or retirement?

That percentage will be a key as to how much you need to start controlling your thoughts. And it is the essential tenet of the Law of Attraction. That tenet states that whatever you put most of your attention on grows. If the percentage of time you spend on thoughts about what you don't want, such as bills, or mistakes, or a declining economy, you will attract more of the same.

So the next step is to take more control. How do you do it? Well, it's not that easy to stay in control of your thoughts 24/7. But you can start to do more in that direction and even going in baby steps will get amazing results. Of course, it's a lot easier if you have tools designed for the purpose of directing your thoughts in the right direction.

This is what you learn how to do in spiritual life coaching: control and direct your thoughts through tools for that purpose. These tools can help you redirect your energy around thoughts that are sabotaging you, and guide your thinking power to create new thought patterns that support your desires.

They also help you set intentions for how you want to direct your thinking. And when situations occur that trigger knee-jerk reactions, the tools can help you switch to a more thoughtful response that doesn't damage your energy. Self-control isn't that hard. You just need to know how to do it effectively. A spiritual life coach can teach you how.
