Are You a Tweeter?

Thanks to intent.com, I now am. I figured if a community that I love and respect and appreciate, like intent.com, joins Twitter…. I better check it out. I’m still not sure I get it. Why would someone who doesn’t know me want to follow me? Is it more for the famous and stalkers of the famous? I am not sure why I would want Ashton Kutcher or Al Gore’s “tweets” unless we knew each other. On second thought, if Shirley Maclaine is a twitter. I am in. I can see myself in the grocery store, waiting in the express aisle, getting a tweet from Shirley and speaking loud enough for my favorite checker to hear: “Shirley MACLAINE, stop tweeting so me much! I simply cannot respond to all of these. I have a life!” Or is it for those who need an audience or need to be seen? I have been on Facebook a little longer and so have my daughters. One daughter has 336 friends. Seriously, how can you have that many friends? Can someone tell me what “friends” really are in cyberspace? I check out all of my daughters’ pages constantly (I’ll bet they wish they never got me a page!) to monitor pictures etc. I was recently shocked to see my youngest daughter’s friend count at 492! No wonder her grades are slipping. So much “genuine” correspondence to keep up with. Not. One of my older daughter’s friend lists is at a respectable 114, with very tasteful, fun pictures on her page. I have scheduled a meeting with my second youngest daughter about the picture thing because she is a professional working in the world now. I have to admit that I asked a few people to be my friends on Facebook last night. I have always waited for invites up until now, but they made me feel good, so why not make someone else feel good? If I see someone interesting on a good friend’s page that I trust, I just might invite a few more.Still, I don’t get the following thing on Twitter. It makes me feel like a stalker. Maybe I can get more of my friends to join, but I already have my email, website, intent.com and Facebook. How much do we need? I did hear on the Today show some terminology: a “dweeter” is someone who drinks and tweets. I need to make a note to talk to my girls about THAT one. I have to go. Shirley is “tweeting” me yet again. I pray she isn’t a “dweeter”. This could get ugly. www.spiritoflivingwell.com
