Online Marketing

Article marketing refers to those businesses or individuals who write short articles related to their respective industry or particular taste. In essence, it is a form of advertising.

In recent years, there has been an upsurge in the application of not only e-commerce, which refers to the purchasing and sale of products or services over the Internet, but also online marketing, which is the promotion and selling of products or services over the Internet.

Authors are able to reach their desired audience using high quality content. An important feature of online article marketing is that publishers receive what is essentially free content whilst, at the same time, advertisers receive what amounts to free advertising.

When an author wishes to publish an article on the internet, it is posted to a website called an article directory. The fact that an author can post an article free of charge is that the article directory is able to place advertising on each article page, and so benefit from the revenue generated in this way. With an increase in the number of articles listed in the directory, this allows the website to steadily gain in search engine popularity. The result of this is that both the author and the directory benefit with increased article exposure.

Unlike articles that are published off-line, there are additional advantages to article marketing conducted online. The main difference is the application of search engine optimisation, or SEO. By the use of search results, this allows a search engine to increase the volume and quality of traffic to a web site. A search engine is used to acquire information on the internet. The higher a site is featured in the list of search results, also called the higher it "ranks," the more searchers will visit that site.

SEO can also target different kinds of search, including:
Image search, which is a type of search engine specializing in finding pictures, images, animations etc
Local search, which is the use of specific Internet search engines that allow users to search against a database of local business listings
Industry-specific vertical search engines, consisting of search engines that focus on specific slices of content, such as topical or informational.

A search engine results page, also known as SERP, is a list of all the web pages returned by a search engine after a visitor has submitted a keyword query, which refers to a word or phrase submitted by the visitor. The results page contains a list of the web pages with titles, a link to the page, and how the keywords have matched the appropriate content in the page.

Articles are written to target particular keyword niches, in which a niche market is defined as a focused and targetable portion of a particular market. The article is then distributed to specific content publishers.
