Attitude and Motivation

I would like to talk to you about an attitude adjustment that
should result in a completely different future than you ever
pictured for yourself--a future you control. Today I'd like to
respond to some statements that people repeatedly make when I tell
them I run my own business from home.

A lot of people say, That must be great. You can get up at noon
and work in your pajamas all day. You're lucky,

Well, this is partly true. I can sleep until noon if I choose, but
since I like to take a long lunch and quit work by around 4 in the
afternoon, I find I really prefer to get started at a reasonable
time. I'm usually on my second cup of coffee when I stroll into the
room I use as my office at around 9. Sometimes I am in my
pajamas--but really, I've found it much more sensible to get
dressed when I get up, even if I just throw on jeans and a t-shirt.

Other people say something much closer to the truth: Wow. That
must require a lot of self-discipline.

Sure, it's tempting to sleep in or even take the day off entirely.
Self-motivation is a major key to developing your business, and
it's one of the most difficult skills for many people to master. No
one will be there to say, I need this by 5:00, so you have to set
your own To Do list for the day and figure out when you will do
each one. Of course, you won't get fired if you don't learn to
self-motivate --but you will make less money. That alone can be
quite motivating

As a home business owner, you must always keep your goals in mind.
It's a good idea to make a poster that you can keep within sight in
your office area. Being in touch with other home business owners
can also help you define your goals and not lose sight of them.
People in the home business network constantly share titles of
books and tapes that they've found extremely helpful in maintaining
motivation and attitude.

What I find most motivating is my family and the feeling of freedom
I have when it comes to taking care of them. I'm not just talking
about money. I'm talking about being right here at home if one of
my children is sick. I'm talking about never missing a play or
recital or soccer game. It is so great to know that I am not only a
great provider, but that I am a much better parent than I could
possibly be if I worked at an outside job.

Everyone has to decide what motivates them. If it's only the money,
there is nothing wrong with that. But I think that as a home
business owner you'll find more rewards than I can name in terms of
self-confidence, peace, flexibility, and freedom.

The choice is up to you.

Remember, Step One is to take action. I can and will help you
change your life, but you have to let me know that you want to do
it. Get that ball rolling by calling me or emailing me. You will
find my contact information at the bottom of this email.

Good luck and all my best,
Jeanne Z
