I imagined myself making a lot of money in Real Estate Investing. I belonged to a local real estate investors organization, went to seminars and read plenty. I believed I would do well. What happened? Disaster!(at least it felt like it then). I had to work two part time cleaning jobs just to keep up with the expenses I was incurring. I had to pay plenty in evicting a tenant. Eventually I lost the house and ruined my credit. Did the Law of Attraction “give” to me what I was thinking? NO! I was thinking and focusing on doing well. In retrospect, what happened was the Law of Attraction simply gave to me what I was. The Law of Attraction will bring to you circumstances that are aligned with who you are. My failure occurred because I did not do what the successful people insist that you do; develop a clear and definite plan. I didn’t focus and develop a plan with guidelines and direction. That’s why I allowed myself to get into a situation that I wouldn’t have if I had only set myself up with specific guidelines. Therefore, I only set myself up for failure. Why didn’t I develop a plan with guidelines? I didn’t do so because that’s who I was. I was an undisciplined, disorganized dreamer that wasn’t capable of being successful in Real Estate Investing. I couldn’t manage it because I wasn’t the right person. The methods and principles were all there for me. The Law of Attraction simply gave me “my own” and brought to me (all wrapped up in the form of a foreclosure) who I was!! Of course, who you are is a direct function of what you think. The problem is, who you are is the fruit of attitudes, actions and habits developed and carved out into your very being long ago. You may have all sorts of positive thoughts and desires, but sometimes percolating way below the surface are attitudes and perspectives that you simply don’t realize; you’ve become used to them and they seem OK to you. I don’t believe that I was unconsciously thinking about failure. I was simply living in a way that clearly indicated (though not to me at the time) that I was headed toward failure. The disorganization and lack of planning filtered down to many areas of my life; from the clutter in my apartment to my lack of financial planning. I had accepted myself in that way. I created myself that way by my thinking and my actions (and lack thereof). This is why I am convinced that my becoming more organized in my apartment, developing a budget and planning my spending and just about everything else in my life has been just as important as any visions and affirmations of prosperity that I may come up with. This is why I shudder when some Law of Attraction “guru” says that he can bring you prosperity within 30 days as long as you follow his program (which is worth $5000.00, usually costs $399.00, but will only cost you $97.00 if you purchase it with the next 17 seconds!). Discovering who you really are and therefore what you really think and believe about yourself is no easy or quick task. You (and everyone else) have too many defense mechanisms set up to make it a fast and simple process. Yet, if you make a decision to take this journey of personal development and determine that you will face and overcome any obstacles within yourself, you will succeed and it may not even cost you $97.00! According to Charles Haanel in his classic The Master Key System, this “domain of mind and spirit,” this “domain of practical power,” will cost you something: “It costs you only the labor of studying and harvesting its great resources. It demands no sacrifice, except the loss of your limitations, your servitudes, your weakness.” And its rewards? “It clothes you with self-honor and puts a scepter in your hands.”nnnnn
