Avoid These 5 Mistakes When Buying A Horse
Written by Lwis Carroll
It feels like butterflies in stomach when you buy your first horse, right? An amazing experience! However, there are always some drawbacks when you first go out and buy that first horse. Go through these 5 mistakes that most (yes, most) first timers commit and ensure you escape these mistakes.
Is It An Untrained Horse?
It's easy to get carried away by those two big, brown eyes. Oh! They look so cute! But, my dear, my dear, the horse batting them may not be the ideal choice. Many first time buyers often go for untrained horses because they tend to come at a lesser price, without realising the fact that training can take months. Beginners should instead look for trained, experienced horses so that they can have fun, the moment they bring the animal home. Having an untrained horse in home also involves some elements of risks of getting hurt while trying to be on his back.
Did You Just Say to Older Horses?
Think again. Well, that senior horse (whom you just said no) can make a great first-time beginner horse. He has seen it all, right? And, thus, it makes sense when you opt for a senior/experienced horse. The animal is much safer when compared to getting home a raw, untrained horse.
Impulse Buying
I must admit that sometimes (actually, many times) I become a victim of impulse buying. I buy something and later regret why I bought that something. Don't buy a horse on first sight. Try the horse out, try it again, ask lots of questions. Only when you are convinced that it's a right pick, make the payment.
Ask for a Trial
Ask and you shall receive. Don't be afraid to ask the seller for a trial period. A good hearted owner of a horse would let you trial his horse. So, just ask for it.
Young Horses and Young Riders
Sounds romantic but young horses and young beginner riders are not a safe mix. Your kids may get injured while trying to be on his back. So, wisdom lies in looking for a a mature, well-trained horse that that they can saddle or harness up the same day you bring it home.
Avoid these 5 mistakes and you are sure to bring home a horse that you will enjoy having. There is no dearth of sport horses for sale, so you can easily find a healthy horse. Just ensure you are picking the right one.
