***Back to Work Advice that You Need
Written by David Couper, The Official Guide To Career Change
- Build up an amazing resume’ – You do this by making sure you construct a resume’ that reflects your skills as they are related to the job you’re applying for. You don’t want to send the same resume’ to every job you are applying for. You want to send a unique resume’ to everyone.
- Include a cover letter – The cover letter is the first impression. It is not used to plead for a job, but to tell the employer that you are serious about doing this job and that you can bring great value to their company.
- Always prepare for the interview – This means you are going to research the common questions that are asked during interviews. That way you can be mentally prepared with your answers. You can expect such questions as “Where do you see yourself in five years” and “Why do you think you are the best candidate for this job?” You may even be asked what your weaknesses are and you need to actually have an answer other than “I don’t know” because no one is flawless. Think of it as a trick question.
- Network – You also need to network. Tell people about your career goals because you never know who will be able to offer you a doorway. You should also post your resume’ online for various employers to see. There are plenty of employers looking for posted resumes so that they can make the first move. They will move toward you as a potential employee rather than you move toward them.
- Persistence – Persistence is also key, but not persistence in the way that you call the employer every single day asking them if they got your resume’. This is persistence in the way that you keep trying. Some individuals are able to get a job in a week and others take a few months, but don’t let that get you down. Where there is a job opening, there is a chance.
