Those who are looking forward to grow in competitive business world should practice the business development techniques. These techniques are especially designed to grow an enterprise to its economic level which includes intelligence gathering about customers and competitors, assessing the market opportunities, follow- ups of sales activity, business model design, generating leads for possible sales and proposal writing formally. Numbers of techniques and strategies are encompasses in business development in order to increase productivity and improve efficiency for an organization.
The technique involves professional experts and skilled individuals who play a great role in achieving the business objectives. Hired as a business development manager automatically increase the responsibility and duties of an individual. There are several functions and activities which they need to perform and here we discuss some of the basic responsibilities of business development manager:
- Research market on regular basis and gather information.
- Explore the economic conditions of the market including competition and business trend.
- Manage the financial issues and bring relevant or appropriate solutions.
- Create detail planning.
- Prepare short term and long term business and financial planning.
- Maintaining the margin expectations of the particular region.
- Work closely to with corporate marketing to design and execute the pre- agreed strategies.
- Act as an interface with existing customer to solidify the mutual expectations of growth and performance.
- Establish support group and create network with small organizations.
- Work in team to pursuing the objective or goal.
- Store and secure financial resources for future development.
- Attend frequent seminars, trade shows and other workshops for being up to date with latest trend and information in business world.
- Analyze new opportunities for achieving profits target.
- Analysis company’s strength, weakness, opportunities and threats in order to develop strategic plan for future development.
Generally business development manager manages day to day activities of business and this management role is very crucial to hold the entire business together and would also ensure the success and failure of the business.
A business development manager must have relevant sales experience, should be aware about the latest economic trends, present fluctuations and government policies etc. He must possess a degree or diploma in business management or in any other engineering discipline from a recognized university is useful for getting the job as a business development manager. Possess solid presentation, interpersonal and communication skills and strong client relationship management is an added advantage to be appointed for the post.
The actual role of BDM depends on the organization such as in large firm, he works with marketing and sales departments and on the other hand in small organization, he need to report to owner or executives.
