Be Exposed Using Safety Vests
Written by Erickson Dow
All the members of our family are sporty. We have many activities to choose from, either biking, jogging, swimming, hiking or playing tennis. We love having an active lifestyle and be physically fit. Because we want to be active and fit all the time, we make sure that these activities are safe and sound, particularly biking or jogging on the road. When my son was little, it was one of the family's favorite things to do - ride bikes around the neighborhood, even into the night. Although this was not that long ago, we didn't have any protection on. We simply got on our bikes and whisked away! Things today, however, have changed all that.
I hate to say it, but it is risky out there - cars running at high velocity and recklessness. When you get in the car, you have to exercise defensive driving - and that goes the same for biking and jogging. I prefer doing these activities on the back streets and hills, yet it's still risky. Therefore, to lessen the likelihood of being harmed, I persuaded all the family members to wear a protective head gear, and a reflective vest if done during nightfall, late in the evening or at sunrise in particular. Frequently, we keep away from the roads at night.
There are more means to safeguard yourself while on the road. Evidently the point is to avoid getting involved in road accidents. You want to be as visible as possible, so adding a headlight to your bike will help. To help you see that the driver of the approaching car is aware of your presence, putting lights on your helmet is useful. There are many countries that require bells on bikes, so adding a horn is a good idea. If a car is approaching, reduce speed lest you want to hit the road to prevent getting hit. Be careful of drivers emerging from parking lots, don't drive on pedestrian lanes, don't oppose traffic, at a stop light stay beside the car and not behind it so that other motorists can see you, look at your side mirrors before taking a turn, at all times look behind you first before you move, do not crisscross in traffic or parking lots, and never forget to use signals before turning. Definitely never ride at night without a headlight and a blinking taillight. Wear a reflective vest; choose wide streets, slow streets, and back streets on the weekends. Obeying the traffic laws and making sure you have the proper protective gear and equipment will give you the best possible odds of avoiding injury.
A lot of the safety instructions for biking are the same for jogging Wear reflective gear, don't use headphones (this applies to biking as well), and be aware at all times of your surroundings. When you ride your bike or jog on the streets, you are also prone to respiratory problems because of the air pollution from cars. You can inhale a lot of carbon monoxide in a very short time including dirt and debris. Yet, occasionally it's the only option people have.
Therefore the most excellent choice is to safeguard yourself as much as possible. One of the best tips is make certain that you stay visible on the road and the way to do that is wear a reflective vest, either orange or yellow in color.
