Pears - Fragrant and Juicy Fruits Originating from Asia, from Himalayan foothills, pears are now grown worldwide. We know over 850 varieties of pears grown worldwide. Very fragrant and juicy, pears are a tasty dessert for lustful children and would be a pity not to take advantage of the benefits of these fruits, now, in their season. Beyond the golden crust, these fruits contain an entire store of vitamins and minerals beneficial for the body and immune system. Besides water, cellulose, fats and chlorophyll, pears contain important components for your baby’s health: minerals, calcium, phosphorus, potassium, iron and vitamins A, B and C. This range of substances is completed by the presence of sugar, which makes them easy to digest. This means that babies can enjoy these flavored fruits too. Main Benefits of Pears Pears are especially recognized for their diuretic, laxative, remineralizing, nourishing and astringent properties. Also, pear consumption stimulates formation of red blood cells, combats anemia, enhances the defense capacity of the immune system, it improves feverish conditions. Thus, pears can be used in treating kidney disease, heart disease, flu prevention, respiratory virus diseases and immune deficiencies. Generally, you have to consume fresh pears, with peel. But for babies or people with sensitive stomach is recommended to remove the peel. Experts believe that pear juice helps regulate digestion, but also to treat cough or asthma. Pears have to be consumed especially in its natural form, but babies can enjoy them as puree, plain or mixed with other fruits or foods for kids (cereals, cheese) and even compote. Pears with Banana Puree – A Good Example This puree is prepared after a very simple recipe and it’s very tasty, babies will accept it with great ease. The recipe is recommended for children bigger than 9 months. You need a pear and a banana. Peel the pear and cut it in slices. Place them on a baking paper in a baking dish, drizzle with maple syrup and a little vanilla sugar and put them in the oven to bake for about 20 minutes. After they have cooled, add the banana cut in pieces, mashed in a blender and so the delicious puree is ready. You can be inventive and improve this recipe. You can, for example, to put the banana to bake together with the pear and so, mix the puree obtained with cereal or cottage cheese. You can make different combinations, so that you can satisfy your child's food preferences.
