There is no such thing as one type of acne. Some acne sufferers may suffer from only mild acne and become acne free in a short period of time, however the majority of acne sufferers are out of luck - they experience two to over five types of acne. These different pimples cannot be treated all in the same way, because they differ in their severity. Some pimples are dangerous and may scar the skin. Other pimples come and go relatively quickly. It's important to understand the type of acne you are suffering from and treat the pimple accordingly.

Mild acne is the most basic of these types of pimples. Inflammation in mild acne is minimal, and you have absolutely nothing to worry about. Mild acne comes and goes, appearing as small bumps in mild to moderate numbers. Bacterial infection in these types of pimples are almost nonexistent, and they usually don't appear very red. Close inspection is needed in order to locate this type of acne. All acne sufferers start with this type of acne before moving on to more severe forms of this symptom. Luckily, these types of pimples can be treated with a decent acne cream.

Moderate acne is a step up; now, the pimple is inflamed. Bacteria thrive in this environment, and they hurt when you poke them. These pimples are still on the surface of the skin. To remove moderate acne, you will need an acne treatment that kills off the bacteria and unclogs pores. Moderate acne sometimes lead to scarring if you excessively pick at it. Often, breakouts include mostly moderate acne.

Severe acne is the worst form of all. Inflammation is severe, and the pimple is rooted deep into the skin. They often develop in large numbers. These pimples are very painful and usually discharge pus. Most forms of acne creams are ineffective against the type of acne. You'll probably need an acne pill that attacks the acne inside out. Beware of scarring, as scarring occurs whether or not you pick at the pimple.

There are many other types of pimples as well, but these three main categories will give you a general idea of where your acne is at. Be sure to see a Dermatologist if you're suffering from severe acne, as you want to minimize scarring.
