Meaning of Love in Bible

The English word "love" has many different meanings and implications. It is commonly interpreted in the terms of affection, benevolence, passion, strong liking, romance, intimacy and sexual or physical attraction.

Biblical implication of the true meaning of love is in the essence of God itself such that Bible says,

"God is love”.

4 Different Kinds of Love in Bible
Eros

It is the Greek word for sensual love. It is derived from classical Greek myth & legend and depicts the god of love, son of Aphrodite with the Roman counterpart Cupid.

In Bible, Eros refers to intimate love between two people for life and refers to both the physical act of love as well in addition to having a spiritual connection.
Storge

Storge also known as familial love, is the Greek word for natural and instinctive affection for parental love. Though this Greek word for family love is not commonly found in Scripture, examples of it are depicted in the Bible.
Philia

Philia means friendship in Modern Greek and refers to dispassionate virtuous love, a concept originated by Aristotle. It includes loyalty and fondness for friends, family, and community, and requires virtue.
Agape

Agape is the highest form of love amongst the four types of love in the Bible. Jesus Christ showed this kind of divine love to his Father and to all humanity and has professed all human beings to show "agape" towards each other.
