Here comes a yet another restriction for men. Initially it was cell phones, then it was laptops and now here comes another study where it states that Excessive Bike riding can cause impotence in some men. Now the question arises that how much of driving leads to this situation? There is still the need for a documented proof to be found as far this statement is concerned. Impotence is defined as inability to achieve an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse. Erection begins with sexual stimulation. Sexual stimulation can be tactile (it can be caused by touching the penis) or physiological by having sexual fantasies. Sexual stimulation or sexual arousal results in electrical impulses along the nerves going to the penis and thereby causing the nerves to release a chemical known as nitric oxide, which in turn increases the production of cyclic GMP (cGMP) in the smooth muscle cells of the corpora cavernosa. The cGMP causes the smooth muscles of the corpora cavernosa to relax and augment blood flow into the penis. The incoming blood fills the corpora cavernosa, making the penis expand and thus causing a strong erection. It is stated that while riding bikes the genitals get’s pressed hard between the seats and thereby resulting into lesser blood flow to the penile region. More often these effects are temporary and reside for a couple of days, but in the case of excessive bike riding the condition can be very severe. In many men suffering from this ED syndrome the treatment is done by prescribing Generic Viagra and the desired result is attained. There were some studies which also proved that riding a bicycle also affects your love life. In this case the risk comes in the kind of bicycles used by men. The studies add to earlier evidence that traditional bicycle saddles, the kind with a narrow rear and pointy nose, play a role in sexual impotence. It was also stated that some saddle designs were more damaging than the others. The studies, by researchers at Boston University and in Italy, found that the more a person rides, the greater the risk of impotence or loss of libido. And researchers in Austria have found that many mountain bikers experience saddle-related trauma that leads to small calcified masses inside the scrotum. But these studies don’t tend to warn you against riding or biking but bikers who spend many hours in this activity should be more careful. Researchers have estimated that 5 percent of men who ride bikes intensively have developed severe to moderate erectile dysfunction as a result. But some experts believe that the numbers may be much higher because many men are too embarrassed to talk about it or fail to associate cycling with their problems in the bedroom. The main point is that one tends to put a lot of weight on the genitals while using the narrow rear and pointy nose type of bikes. No doubt that Cycling is good for your health but certain precautions against impotence is also a matter of concern. Though Doctor’s have a wide range of treatment for Impotence and ED,the most common being prescribing medicines like Generic Viagra, Levitra, Kamagra but the manufacturers of bikes and bicycles need to take this point into consideration while production of these items.
