As women grow older, a lot of them begin to worry about the changes that occur. Aging is a part of life and there is nothing anyone can do to stop it. The best that we can do is try to manage the entire process as best as we can.
Menopause is something that some women are scared of and with good reasons too. For some women, menopause comes with so much psychological and physical pain. In this short post, we would not concern ourselves with the psychological part of things. We shall however take a look at the physical distress that a woman can face pre, during and post menopause. We shall be looking at this with a view to offering a simple, safe and effective solution.
Many doctors and scientists have made attempt to find a lasting treatment for menopausal symptoms over the years. In 19966 Robert A. Wilson MD gave women serious hope when he in his book titled "Feminine Forever" wrote that women can prevent menopause by taking estrogen when the body stops producing it naturally. The idea was that since this hormone (estrogen) was responsible for the cycle that leads to menstruation, and that menopause begins when the hormone no longer produced by the body, re-introducing this hormone into the body would force the body to function as it would when the hormone was produced naturally in it.
Theoretically, the argument was very sound. In fact, the treatment of postmenopausal women with estrogen began and continued for a long time. Actually, it is still obtainable today. From this, we gather that that was a step in the right direction. We said a step in the right direction and not a solution because there were some issues that came up as things progressed.
Hormones are chemicals that have a given chemical structure. The hormones that were used in this treatment were not of the same chemical structure as hormones produced naturally in the body. This resulted in serious side effects which effectively reduced the effectiveness of this method of treating menopausal symptoms. This is the point where bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) came on board.
As a way of correcting the problems that arose with the former approach to hormone therapy, BHRT rather than use just any type of hormone, uses supplemental hormones that have the same chemical structure as hormones produced naturally in the body. This resulted in a safer and more efficient method of treating not just menopausal symptoms but other cases of hormonal imbalance.
After years of being used as an alternative to traditional hormone therapy, bioidentical hormone replacement therapy has been widely accepted as the perfect treatment for menopausal symptoms. The side effects associated with other hormone therapy methods have been removed. Women and indeed men can now enjoy hormone therapy without fear of horrible side effects.
