Dr. D. Y. Patil College of Nursing, Pimpri, Pune – 18 Approved by Government of Maharashtra and Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi.

Lecture Halls
The College has spacious lecture halls. The desks are well spaced out and halls are well ventilated. Each hall also has the latest audio-visual teaching aids.

Auditorium
The Auditorium is spacious, centrally air-conditioned with ergonomically designed chairs and is fully equipped with latest audio-video facilities with seating capacity of 250 and is being extensively used for all kinds of seminars, symposia, and lecture of guest speakers.

Central Library
The College has an excellent central library facility. It has a total floor area of 4500 sq. meter, with a provision for a separate reading room for the teaching staff and spacious reading halls to accommodate over 750 students. The total collection of the central library is more than 30,000 volumes.

Reading Room
Library subscribes to most of the national and international journals required for the undergraduate and post-graduate students and faculty. In addition to the central library facility, the college has its Department Library. The Reading Room of the central library is kept open for 16 hours a day. The central library has been provided with Internet facility and students and the faculty have open access to this facility

Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth believes in systematic teaching, training, and research in Modern Medical Sciences and uniformity in various courses in medical and Allied health sciences. The philosophy of the B. Sc. Nursing is incorporated by Dr. D.Y. Patil Vidyapeeth as part of Indian Nursing Council.

Nursing contributes to the health services in a vital and significant way in the health care delivery system. It recognizes national health goals and is committed to participating in the implementation of National Health policies and programs. It aims at identifying health needs of the people, planning and providing quality care in collaboration with other health professionals and community groups.
The scope of nursing practice encompasses the provision of promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative aspects of care to people across their lifespan in a wide variety of healthcare settings. The practice of Nursing is based upon an application of basic concepts and principles derived from the physical, biological, behavioral sciences, medicine and nursing.
Nursing is based on values of caring and aims to help individuals to attain independence in self-care. It necessitates the development of compassion and understanding of human behavior among its practitioners to provide care with respect and dignity and protect the rights of individuals and groups.
An undergraduate nursing program is a broad-based education within an academic framework, specifically directed to the development of critical thinking skills, competencies & standards required for the practice of professional nursing and midwifery as envisaged in National Health Policy 2002.
The teachers have the responsibility to be role models and create a learning environment that enables students to acquire inquiry-driven, self-directed learning and foster an attitude of lifelong learning.
Undergraduate nursing education program prepares its graduates to become an exemplary citizen by adhering to a code of ethics and professional conduct at all times in fulfilling personal, social and professional obligations so as to respond to national aspirations.

Admission Requirements

  1. The minimum age for admission shall be 17 years on or before 31st December 2018.
  2. The minimum educational requirements shall be the passing of:

A candidate should have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English Individually and must have obtained a minimum of 45% of marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology at the qualifying examination i.e. (10+2). Furthermore, the candidates belonging to SC/ST or other backward classes, the marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology taken together in qualifying examination be 40% instead of 45% as stated above. English is compulsory subject in 10+2 for being eligible for admission to B.Sc. Nursing.

  4. Candidate shall be medically fit.
  5. Entrance /Selection Test: Selections of the candidates should be based on the merit in the entrance examination conducted by Vidyapeeth.
  6. Duration : Duration of the course shall be four years (Eight Semester)

Objectives:
The aim of the undergraduate nursing programme is to:

  • Prepare graduates to assume responsibilities as professional, competent nurses and midwives in providing promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative services.
  • •Prepare nurses who can take independent decisions in nursing situations, protect the rights and facilitate individuals and groups in pursuit of health, function in the hospital , community nursing services and conduct research studies in the areas of nursing practice. They are also expected to assume the role of teacher, supervisor and Manager in a clinical / public health setting.

    On completion of the four years B.Sc. Nursing Programme the graduate will be able to

  1. Apply knowledge from physical, biological and behavioral sciences medicine including alternative systems and nursing in providing nursing care to individuals, families, and communities.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of lifestyle and other factors, which affect healthy individuals and groups.
  3. Provide nursing care based on steps of nursing process in collaboration with the individuals & groups.
  4. Demonstrate critical thinking skill in making decisions in all situations in order to provide quality care.
  5. Utilize the latest trends and technology in providing health care.
  6. Provide promotive, preventive and restorative health services in line with national health policies and programs.
  7. Practice within the framework of a code of ethics and professional conduct and acceptable standards of practice within the legal boundaries.
  8. Communicate effectively with individuals and groups and members of the health team in order to promote effective interpersonal relationships and teamwork.
  9. Demonstrate skills in teaching to individuals and groups in clinical / community health settings.
  10. Participate effectively as members of the health team in the health care delivery system.
