Campsites in the Lake District â the ultimate guide
Written by David Rambloor
It isn’t difficult finding touring caravan parks in the Lake District. Finding the right campsites in the Lake District, though, is a matter of picking your location and surroundings carefully.
Hardcore walkers are more likely to want to stay in inns and bed and breakfasts than they are to set up camp with a touring caravan. If your idea of a relaxing holiday needs something gentler than the mountainous terrain of the northern part of the Lake District, then you’ll be delighted with the touring caravan parks on offer in the area’s southern regions.
Close to Lake Windermere, and absolutely surrounded by tourist attractions, wonderful villages and glorious hills, campsites in the Lake District at its southern end have everything the touring family could want from their holiday. Outstanding onsite facilities, including swimming pools, water parks and bars; and great access to the Lakeland towns of Ambleside, Coniston, Windermere and Kendal, make sites like the Lakeland Holiday Park ideal for families.
The southern Lake District’s touring caravan parks are ideally placed for rainy day activities too. As well as the onsite facilities, campsites in the Lake District are never short of ideas for families who don’t want to be outside when it rains: like the Aquarium of the Lakes, or the Lakeland Motor Museum.
If you do have a yen for walking, give the Great Langdale area a go. You are less likely to find touring caravans at this end of the spectrum but families that like a bit of action will be well rewarded by pitching a tent in full view of the Langdales. Tent with your own tent or go at it in style with a luxury yurt, owned by the Great Langdale Campsite.
