Many expert anglers emphasize that a person needs an experience of many years in order to become an expert at catfishing. Well most of this is true; anyone can acquire the skill of catching big catfish by following the right catfishing techniques. I mean if you know the best catfish bait you should use or sometimes what catfish traps are more successful than others, you’ll be able to become a catfishing super star in a very short time period. All I’m saying here is that catfishing isn’t easy as it looks like but you also don’t need to be a space physicist to catch big catfish either. Most catfishers tell you that you can use whatever bait you choose to because catfish eats everything. Well that’s true to some point, but if you want to catch as many big catfish as your bucket can hold, you need to choose baits carefully. Catfish are considered highly sensitive to food because of their barbells. They use them to sense the environment around them for food or sometimes for potential danger. They mainly rely on scent and taste to find their foods, and that’s why we need to choose suitable baits for them. There is a lot of controversy when it comes to choosing natural baits against artificial ones. While the two can work for you, I personally prefer the natural ones as I had the best results using them. Catfish baits can be bought from any fishing store or if you want, you can prepare them yourself. Shrimps and Crowdads are preferable baits for many anglers. The problem though is that they take some time to prepare. What I personally prefer though is cut baits. An example of very effective cut bait which most experienced anglers use is chicken liver as it produces a very strong scent which can attract catfish easily. Another interesting techniques used by many anglers is setting catfish traps. This is a very easy yet effective method. You can either buy ready made traps or make them yourself as they are very easy to prepare. Unlike other catfishing techniques, using catfish traps will save you the time that you usually spend when executing other methods. You can set it and forget it (not completely) and come back after 6 to 12 hours to check if you’ve caught some cats. A final advice you should take from me is that you stay always prepared. It’s always good to bring a safety first aid kit in case something happened. A good company is also required when going for the big hunt. If you follow these guidelines, you should be able to catch as many big catfish as you want to in a very small period of time.
