Perhaps the most common challenge that parents face is choosing the right school for their children. The right start to education is of utmost importance for the bright future of kids. And this start means parents have to do a thorough research before they finalise on which board they will like their children to study from. One can opt for IGCSE, State board or CBSE schools in Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi or any other city the parent is working in.
But there is a constant fight when it comes to State boards and CBSE. Parents may seem confused when posed with this choice. Well, let’s take a look at some points that will help you understand the difference between the 2 boards and make the right decision.
1) Learning - While CBSE fosters conceptual understanding, the State Board emphasises memory concepts with heaps of material. CBSE students are in a better situation to grasp the situation well and answer accordingly, putting their concept and practical knowledge to use. This helps in the long run when they sit for competitive exams or pursue their higher studies.
2) Syllabus — In comparison to the state board, CBSE curriculum is deemed more durable, practical and conducive to future study. It ensures that students are encouraged to put their theoretical knowledge to use through various activities and projects.
3) Higher education – In CBSE schools, the kids’ skills are honed in a way that they are prepared well for high-profile entrance exams. Thus, CBSE is undoubtedly the best medium to choose if your child wants to pursue studies at national institutions such as IIT and AIIMS. Most of the entrance exams are based on the CBSE curriculum. If your concepts are clear, it becomes easy for you to crack these exams.
4) Marking system - It is easier to score in state boards when compared to CBSE board exams. The assessment of CBSE board examinations is conducted in a controlled manner and the students are tested not only on their theoretical knowledge but also the practical understanding of the concepts.
5) Consistency - In case you have a transferable job, opt for CBSE board. It will be easier for you to find a good school when you shift locations. Your kid will be able to cope up with the education system and pick up from where they left in their previous school. It is because the syllabus remains consistent across all the CBSE schools unlike state boards where you can see volatility.
In addition to CBSE and state board schools, some parents even look for IGCSE schools in Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune or Delhi. But given that they have a very different curriculum based on the international education system and are limited to mostly the Tier 1 cities, it is difficult for everyone to go with this choice of board.
Having looked at the points above, and the research that you must have done, you will now be in a better position to make the right choice for your kid when it comes to giving him/her the right start.
