Pregnancy is a natural process which is a beautiful experience. It is the process of bringing out the offspring to the world. Sometimes people face difficulties to give birth to the baby naturally . At that time IVF (in-vitro fertilization) procedure comes into the play. Your doctor may advise you to try IVF to give birth to a child on this beautiful earth and make your life happy and joyous.

What is In-vitro Fertilization?
It is an artificial method of pregnancy. Where the egg is fertilised outside the body of the woman. The fertilization process occurs in a laboratory dish and then this fertilised egg or embryo is transferred to the uterus.

How does the IVF process work?
The First Step
To make the uterine environment sustainable for the fertilised egg the doctor administers some hormonal medication, like clomiphene, hMG or FSH, for about ten days. These hormonal drugs will help you to achieve the growth & development of several follicles as well as several eggs. It also helps in determining when ovulation will occur. Although, frequent monitoring is also required.
Regular blood tests are also to be done to monitor the progress of the process along with USG. Some women respond quickly to this treatment while some take time to respond. This process is called the harvesting stage of IVF . If this process is not showing any potential result to you then you should try the donor egg option.

Second step
In this stage you get your eggs matured and they are taken out from the ovaries only after getting maturity. Your doctor will extract the egg at the right time, as timing matters a lot in this case. Extracting the eggs before it gets ripened makes no sense as it will be able get fertilised. At the same time, extracting late is also of no use. So , timing is very important in this process.

Third Step or Fertilisation
After harvesting the egg the doctor will ask your spouse for semen. If your partner is not able to give his semen sample because of any kind of reason or if he has low sperm count then you can use a sperm donor facility after consulting with your doctor. After getting both the egg and semen sample your doctor will fertilise both in a petrie dish using an incubator which will generate the same temperature as the woman's body.

Transferring the embryo
Once the embryos are ready for transferring, between two and five days after fertilization, your doctor will use a tube to gently release the embryos into your uterus. This is a relatively painless procedure that doesn’t require any anesthesia. Your doctor may also choose to use an ultrasound to help guide the placement of the fertilized eggs into your uterus. If all goes well, then at least one egg will implant into your uterine lining.

Chances of getting pregnant with IVF ?
There are several factors that may enhance the chance of getting pregnant with IVF or could act as a constraint . so , moving further to see what are those factors -

Age - age is an important parameter to get pregnant using IVF procedure . As the age increases, the risk of infertility increases. Eggs in the younger age of the women are more productive than in older age. So the success rate of the IVF also varies with age of the women.

Earlier pregnancies - previous pregnancies also play an important role while determining chances of pregnancy using IVF method. If you were pregnant earlier then it increases the chance of getting pregnant while women who are trying for the 1st time have less chance.

Are getting pregnant with your former partner this time then it is more helpful for you to conceive more easily and quickly. But , changing partners and miscarriages may reduce the chance of getting pregnant using IVF.

Type of problem with pregnancy - infertility problems like low sperm count in men and ectopic pregnancy, fibroids, tumors of reproductive organs in women may be responsible for decreasing the chance of getting pregnant with IVF.

But, IVF success is mostly dependent on ovarian function and FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) level in the body. If both the partners are infertile then it may trigger the risk of lowering the chance of success through IVF procedure.

Application of donor eggs - If you crossed the age 35 to 40 years and still want a baby using IVF procedure then you may opt for a donor egg option which is pretty common nowadays. Success of the IVF treatment depends on the quality of the egg and age of the donor.

Lifestyle - if you want to enhance the chance of getting pregnant using IVF then you should stop smoking , stop drinking and should not indulge yourself in any drug addiction activity. Try to control your weight so that it should not create any problem with your pregnancy.
