Children Must Drink Adequate Water on a Daily Basis at School
Written by Arvind Kapoor
How much water should we drink? Today’s health freak society considers this to be one of the most common health questions asked and the answer always fluctuates. Some say you should drink eight cups of water everyday while others feel you should drink 2.5 liters of water. The actual amount of water that you should drink depends upon various aspects like gender, age, level of activity and environment. It is recommended by doctors that an adult man should drink 13 cups of water every day and a woman should drink 9 cups of water per day. These numbers are determined by the average amount of water a person looses throughout the day through excretions as well as amount of water required to facilitate bodily functions. Women who are pregnant should drink at least 10 to 13 cups of water per day to accommodate for the additional water loss of the baby.
Young children grow and develop rapidly, so they require a larger amount of water. When the individual grows old the need of water consumption reduces slightly but an adequate amount is still essential for the normal body functioning. You should take care to drink an extra amount of water every day. That’s because your body will not be able to make out the early signs of dehydration and it will not send thirst signals to your brain, so you should fix the amount of water you drink. Environment also determines the amount of water you should drink. One who resides in warmer climate should drink more water to compensate the loss of liquid through perspiration. It is also same for the individuals who stay at high altitudes also require drink more water because of lack of oxygen which gives rise to loss of moisture during respiration.
Everyone needs to drink more water during the summer months as the heat and can perspiration lead to greater loss of liquid. Water is indispensable for your body to function properly and it removes toxins out of your organs, carries nutrients throughout the body, and provides a moist environment for sensitive tissues and organs. When your body is not properly hydrated, then it will start producing the following symptoms:
- Headache
- Thirst
- Dry mouth
- Muscle weakness
- Fatigue or Lethargy
- Dizziness
- Lightheadedness
Thirst is always a good sign of the need for water and you should not wait until you are thirsty because thirst is one of the symptoms of dehydration .It is extremely important to keep your body hydrated at all times to stay away from dehydration and its resulting health consequences. A good rule for drinking the proper quantity of water is to drink one glass with each meal and one glass between each meal. The more you during water, the less dehydration will be there. When you drink enough water the level of energy will be consistent and the concentration level also gets enhanced. Those who have health problems like IBS and constipation, also slowly recover when their water levels are met. Schools have now installed RO water purifiers to provide students with purified and distilled water at any time of the day. Students are also encouraged to bring water bottles and are given time to fill up their bottles in between classes so that they drink a set amount of water everyday.
