No matter what event you are renting a limousine for, you will want to make sure the limo service you ultimately select is a reputable company that will provide you with the night of your life. With all of the limo companies in the phone book today, it can be hard to narrow down your choices so that your risk of getting scammed is minimized. Here are seven simple steps toward helping you meet the goal of choosing the right limo service.

1. Ensure that the company you select has a valid license in your state. This means that the company has liability insurance that will cover all of the passengers in your party. You can find a list of licensed limo operators on your state’s Department of Motor Vehicle website.

2. Get references from the companies you are considering and follow up with those references. Make sure that the customers were completely satisfied with the limo service and if they all say they were, check out complaints yourself by visiting your local Better Business Bureau’s website. You can also see complaints at your state’s Department of Consumer Affairs’ websites or your state’s DMV website.

3. Verify the screening processed used by the limo company you are considering. You want your driver to be reliable and safe, so it’s important to know that the company he works for took the time to make sure he is both.

4. Visit the company in person to ensure that you get the exact limo you want. The company should be able to show you the limo and all of its safety features. By seeing it in person, you will be able to verify that all of the components are in good working order, that the vehicle is clean, that there will be enough room in the car for all of your passengers, that there are seatbelts for everyone, that the inspections are up to date and that the car is well-maintained.

5. Ask for the list of services included in your package or that you have upgraded to. You should also know how the driver is going to be dressed and what drinks and snacks are provided by the company. It is also important to know that you are the only party using the vehicle during the contract period.

6. Find out what the limo company’s insurance covers. You should also inquire as to what additional charges, such as tips, fuel, mileage or cleaning you will be responsible for.

7. Never sign a contract or hand over any money until you have had an opportunity to read through the contract thoroughly. Verify that you will be getting the exact services you want and the exact car you want.
