Cloud PBX systems are becoming very popular these days because of the many benefits that it brings. Statistic revealed that VoIP solutions such cloud PBXs is one of the most sought after communication solution. However not many of us really understand the concept of technology and we all know that with better understanding comes better utilization. How cloud PBX systems work Etymologically the word cloud PBX came from two concepts, PBX or private branch exchange is the term used to refer to an enterprise phone system and cloud came from cloud computing which is termed according to how the process diagram looks like thus cloud PBX was born. In a traditional PBX the hardware and various components like the switch board and PBX that keeps the phone system running is located in your office. These components establish and handle the connection between telephones or mapping it, maintains the connection or channeling and disconnecting if the call has been completed. On the other hand cloud PBX systems will not require you to purchase PBX components making the set up very affordable and you only need to acquire a SIP based IP phone or in some cases a soft phone. So how does it work without such components? Technically the components are still present but with the help of the internet you don’t need to have it on your premise rather it is situated in your service provider’s servers or data centers which is accessed through your internet. The components of a cloud PBX system are comprised of a series of hardware and software which maps, channels and disconnects the call accordingly. Unlike traditional phone systems that have a default setting the latter has an open source programming capabilities that allow service providers to effectively customized communication solutions according to various needs of the customer. It can be best compared to a website which is accessed through the internet and can be customized accordingly using a set of programming language. In a traditional telephone, calls are routed using coppers wires in an analog medium but with VoIP analog signals are converted into digital signals and will go through packetization before it is transmitted as an Internet Protocol or IP. It is then sent to your service provider’s servers for channeling and routed to the nearest PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) exchange of the number prefix you are dialing. Although VoIP call termination may seem to be more complicated it is in fact more effective and efficient thus solution was able to reduce call cost. All steps including the digitization, packetization, channeling and transmission transpire within milliseconds so delays and jitters are very uncommon.
