Prosthodontics is a broad subfield of dentistry focused on the restoration or rehabilitation of the teeth through the use of prosthetic or artificial restoratives. This field is often confused with orthodontics, which focuses on the alignment of the teeth and the condition of the bone structure relevant to the teeth’s functions. The procedures categorized under these two fields are considered important to cosmetic dentistry, as the procedures contribute to the appearance of the teeth. The most popular cosmetic dentistry procedures today include teeth whitening, veneer and implant installation, gum lift, and bonding. Patients who complain about the unpleasant color of their teeth often go for dental bleaching, a teeth whitening procedure that involves application of oxidizers like hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide. Unlike teeth whitening procedures that can be done at home, veneer and implant installation must be done in a dental clinic, usually through series of appointments. A veneer is a layer of porcelain or composite resin material used to cover the surface of the severely discolored, chipped, or undersized teeth. This material has become a popular tool for cosmetic dentistry in advanced cities like Las Vegas. Many dentists have been using veneer placement as an alternative to teeth whitening procedures. A dental implant is a restorative device resembling a tooth root. The implant is installed in the patient’s jawbone to support an artificial pulp that fills the empty space in the gum line. This is one of the major developments in Las Vegas cosmetic dentistry, because dental implants can be used to support more sturdy dentures. The strength of an artificial tooth supported by an implant can even exceed the strength of a natural tooth. On the other hand, other procedures like gum lift and bonding also contribute to the appearance of the teeth. Patients with teeth that appear small because of excessive gum lines can go to las vegas cosmetic dentists for gum lift surgery. The main goal of this procedure is to expose the portion of the teeth that is covered by soft tissues. Bonding has a similar purpose with dental veneers in that both can be used to replace lost tooth structures and restore the functions of the teeth. Many of the patients who go to las vegas cosmetic dentists for bonding procedures are adults whose teeth are severely reduced due to age
