Common Types of Pillows

Pillows help us sleep better at night. However, not everyone would feel comfortable with the same type of pillow. Some may need something that’s firm and thick while some would prefer soft and thin. In addition, there are different fillings that are used for pillows and not all prefer the same fillings. Also, there are some that are actually allergic to a specific type of filling. These filling types are actually what define the types of pillows. Here are the most common types of pillows: 1. Cotton PillowrnThis type of pillow is filled with 100% cotton. Cotton pillows are known for its durability and reasonable cost. Most often cotton pillows are machine washable but it is best to actually change the pillow as cotton pillows become flat. Actually, this is one characteristic of a cotton pillow. It is soft but it’s relatively flat and gets flat over time as the weight of your body or head rests on it. To prolong its fluffy characteristic, you must fluff it every morning. 2. Down PillowrnThere are two kinds of down pillow – duck and goose down. Given these, down pillows are pillows that use feathers as fillings. These are more expensive that cotton pillows. These are also very soft but it easily gets deformed. Simple fluffing can restore its shape. Some people do not like this type of pillow because of allergies to feather and because of the quill. The quill is that spine in the middle of the feather that sometimes pokes out of the pillowcase. The main difference between duck and goose down is actually the quill. Goose down feathers has smaller and softer quills so it is less bothersome. However, goose down is more expensive than duck. 3. Foam PillowrnFoam pillows are well, made of foam. This type of pillow is for the person that needs or wants a firm pillow. Foam pillows support better because it’s firm and does not get deformed. 4. Memory Foam PillowrnAs for this type, this type of pillow is the youngest out of the 4 common pillow types. It has just gained popularity around the last decade or less. It’s made from micro fibre foam. People call it a revolutionary pillow because it conforms to the shape of the head and goes back to its original shape immediately once the weight on the pillow is gone. Because of the support and the way it conforms, it has been said that it makes sleeping more comfortable and even helps alleviate neck and back pains. These are the most common pillows. When purchasing one, make sure that the pillow is something that you would be comfortable with.
