Amongst all the other factors causing the mind-numbing condition of insomnia a suitably healthy diet containing sleep-aiding foods is often another missing or faulty ingredient that is essential for being able to permanently and effectively cure insomnia naturally.
It's a fact - every morsel of every type of food you eat has an effect on your sleep!
There are of course, food types like caffeine and sugar that'll only contribute to keeping you awake, but you'll be happy to know that there are plenty of tasty, healthy foods that contain a naturally occurring amino acid that aids sleepiness.
Tryptophan - the sleep creator
This Amino Acid is the creator of sleep-inducing neurotransmitters commonly known as serotonin and melatonin. Serotonin and melatonin help to relax the brain and thus increase the effect of drowsiness.
Very simply put, eating foods containing tryptophan (pronounced TRIP-TOE-FAN) will play a huge role toward the process of grabbing the healthy, solid sleep that we all must have.
A special relationship actually exists between carbohydrates and tryptophan-containing foods. Therefore, to make sure tryptophan has an easier route to the brain, meals containing good complex carbs (like pasta and baked potatoes) and a tryptophan filled protein (such as turkey, dairy or eggs) is the way to go.
A meal consisting of a larger amount of protein than carbohydrate will probably keep you awake, while a meal containing a carbohydrate with no or little protein will probably help with making you sleepy - the last half of your day, when you have dinner or supper or a late night snack, should be the time you eat a complex carbohydrate with only a small portion of that important tryptophan containing protein.
That old fashioned glass of warm milk before bed works for a reason - tryptophan!
So, the low carb, high protein dishes, which will energize and invigorate, are best consumed during the first half of the day, for your breakfast and lunch etc.
In summary; a poor diet is very often one of the main causes of insomnia, therefore fixing your diet and controlling the food you consume is just part of the re-training of your brain that you need to carry out in order to cure insomnia naturally and permanently.
