“We admitted we were powerless over alcohol - that our lives had become unmanageable.” Alcoholics Anonymous
“In our ignorance of the truth, we have misused the highest power we possess. And so great is this power -- so complete is our freedom in it, so absolute the domain of law through it -- that the misuse of this power has brought upon us the very conditions from which we suffer.” Ernest Holmes

In reading the first step of AA, I realize the word alcohol can be replaced by any word one chooses. When we allow anything to run our lives; money, alcohol, drugs, sex, news, the list is endless; then we misuse the highest power we possess. I know there is One Life, that life is God’s Life, that life is each of our lives right here and right now. I declare in this precious, unique moment to surrender to the power and presence of God within me. For I know that the innermost God and the highest God are one and the same. I look at my life knowing that I am responsible for its creation based on my previous thoughts, beliefs, feelings, actions and reactions. When my life was unmanageable it was of my own doing. When I was looking outside myself for comfort, happiness, love I was not allowing the alignment of my soul with the Truth of my Being – God is my Source. My comfort, my happiness, my love must first come from within. At any given moment we can change our lives by changing our thoughts, our beliefs, our feelings, our actions and our reactions. I am grateful for AA and all other 12-step programs. I am grateful there are loving souls out there willing to support me as I walk this path; as I support them. I am grateful my life became unmanageable and I was willing to admit I was powerless. For I know that as I surrender letting go and letting God my life is filled with ease, grace and unconditional love. And so it is
