State legislation laws regulate the activities of debt collection agencies and the collectors employed by these agencies. Following are the general regulations imposed and may vary in each state.
Debt collectors should not:
Attempt to collect on a debt without informing the debtor in writingr
Commence a legal action without sending a written notice to debtorr
Call debtors regularly at inconvenient timesr
Demand payment without disclosing the name of the creditor as well as the amount owedr
Indicate that you owe or give any other misleading informationr
Demand payment even when he disputes the debtr
Contact thrid parties for information about your
Contacting your employer when such communication is not appreciated by you
The NCO is notorious for violating some or all of the FDCPA guidelines. Despite stringent laws in place, the NCO collectors are bent on breaking them with the hope of recovering big amount from innocent victims.
