Determining the price of the pearls

Tahitian pearls are an amazing piece of jewelry to have. The single most important thing when picking out Tahitian pearls is the nacre thickness and this is also important in determining the price of the pearls. However, after the nacre thickness, there are a few other factors that determine the price of the pearls.

Luster - if a Tahitian pearl has a nice luster, it reflects light well. If you are looking at a Tahitian pearl with a nice luster, you should be able to see things reflected in the pearl, as if it were a mirror. The luster has to do with the nacre thickness as well, because pearls with a thicker nacre will have a nicer luster, and will also cost more. A thick nacre will also ensure that the luster lasts longer, and does not wear down.
Shape - when someone thinks of a pearl, they think of a perfect sphere. This is rarely true, because perfectly spherical pearls cost a fortune. Black Tahitian pearls can come in all kinds of different shapes, including round and spherical. They can also be ringed or baroque shaped. Baroque is just about any random shape that is not round or spherical, or to be more specific, when they are asymmetrical.

Size - the size of the pearls is very important, especially if you have a Tahitian pearl necklace, because you want each and every pearl to be about the same size. This is not too difficult if the necklace is made up of smaller pearls, but if they are larger ones, it will be very costly. Tahitian pearls range from about 7.5mm to 16mm, although the 16mm ones are quite rare.

Other than the Nacre thickness, these three factors will be the most important things to look for when selecting black Tahitian pearls.
