Lifts and Dinghy Davits - Easy Up or Down

While enjoying a rather generous sundowner in the early evening and watching the setting sun, hoping to see the green flash, one notices a sailing yacht motoring slowly into the anchorage and find a satisfactory spot to drop anchor for the night. Within minutes the dinghy is launched from a shiny pair of forespar nova davits mounted on the stern of the yacht.

The dinghy is then moved to the side of the yacht and from an unobtrusive forespar nova lift, the outboard is raised from its stowed position and lowered smoothly onto the dinghy transom.

Effortlessly
This operation is carried out so effortlessly that if you were not deliberately taking note, the whole affair would have passed by completely unnoticed. Usually, one hears harsh words spoken from terse lips, the sudden shriek of anguish, or a loud splash as the loading or unloading of equipment from vessel to dinghy suddenly starts going horribly wrong.

Injured
Sometimes people are injured and need help and your happy hour is now an unhappy one because you feel obliged to offer assistance. Soon there is a melee of small craft buzzing about filled with onlookers and (getting in the way) enthusiastic, happy hour helpers. If a local rescue unit has been called to assist, the drama increases ten fold.

Boaters are often shipping or unshipping awkward objects from difficult positions as well as from constant rocking and rolling platforms, and if proper care is not taken people do get hurt.

Efficient Davits
Now days, it is not necessary to struggle with inadequate jury rigs to get supplies or the dinghy on board. At most reputable marine outlets, stylish, efficient and robust marine grade lifts and davits are available.

These simple to install and stow away products will not only make your boating life a whole lot simpler but also create a safer environment for you and your crew to work and play in.

Avoid Rope Burn
The user friendly lifts available today have their lifting lines running inside the housing thereby avoiding tangles, crushed or cut hands and fingers or agonizing rope burn.

The bases unit is easily fixed permanently in position with a few strong nuts and bolts and the lifting arm can be easily removed and stowed when not in use, thus keeping the deck neat and tidy.

Lifting line can be led to the nearest boat winch or, to a lift that comes with its own winch. Now it requires only one person to attach the cargo, lift, lower as well as swivel in any direction, up and over the side railings lifelines etc.

Caught In The Propellor
You can also get great looking practical robust forespar nova davits built for the dinghy that can easily be removed and stowed when not required.

When underway Davits are a great way for stowing the dinghy, on the stern of your vessel and one can thereby avoiding that nightmare of the painter getting caught up in the propeller.

There is no getting away from the fact that in today’s world no matter where you are, your expensive and sometimes impossible - to - replace boating equipment, must be properly stowed and secured on your vessel when not in use.

Good Old Days
Gone are the good old days when you could leave your possessions floating around for days or even weeks. Today you can be sure someone will nick it.

To ensure this added chore of securing your gear does not become a tedious affair, having the right hoisting equipment on board is paramount, thus making it a fun part of your boating routine.

Personally, over a period of 20 years of cruising I have never had anything stolen but I do know of many sailors who have lost some costly belongings.
