Discover a Successful Way To Train Your Dog- All With a Click of a Button!
Written by Morgan Montgomery
Clicker training is one of the most effective and successful way to train a dog. Clicker training is based on a 2 way communication with you and your pet using a specialized clicker for dogs. Clicker training is a positive reinforcement training technique. Your dog will learn how to associate good behavior with the clicker, making training more effective. The great thing about clicker training is that you can train all your pets including your dog, birds and cats. It works with younger pets as well as older pets. Below are some amazing tips you can use to clicker train your dog.
Introducing the Clicker to Your Dog
Before we start, don't randomly click the clicker at any given time. By doing so, your dog will not associate the clicking sound with rewards.
The best way to introduce your pet to the clicker is to wait until your pet is showing good behavior.
When you see good behavior, click one and reward with a treat (make sure the treat is a tasty morsel and not a single piece of kibble.) You will also want to introduce a cue word with that behavior because eventually your going to ween your pet off the clicker. Introducing the clicker may take several practices. To prevent overfeeding your dog, rationing their food portions throughout the day or portioning their food. If your pet is too full, he or she may not be interested in working for the treat. The best time for these practice sessions is before meal times.
How to Use the Clickerr
When you see a desired behavior from your dog, push the clicker and then treat. When using the clicker, it is important for you click DURING the behavior and not right after it. Remember to click and treat when you see your pet doing some thing good. Anything from coming when he is called, sitting on command, waiting patiently for his food and etc. The timing of the click is VITAL to make this work. If your dog isn't responding, you may be clicking too late.
Keep the practice sessions short. Your dog will learn faster in 3 fifteen minute sessions rather than a 1 hour long session.
Push and release the springy end of the clicker, making a two-toned click. Then treat. Keep the treats small. Use a delicious treat at first: for a dog or cat, little cubes of roast chicken, not a lump of kibble. When you see your dog do something you really like, don't increase the number of treats instead increase the number of clicks.
How to Fix Bad Behaviorsr
You can use the clicker to eliminate bad behaviors. For example, when your pet urinates int he appropriate places,CLICK. When your furry friend has his paws on the floor and not on other people,CLICK. Instead of scolding your dog during bad behavior, click and reward your dog for GOOD BEHAVIOR. This is called positive reinforcement is is found to be more effective than other forms of training.
Fix bad behavior by clicking good behavior. Click the puppy for relieving itself in the proper spot. Click for paws on the ground, not on the visitors. Instead of scolding for making noise, click for silence. Cure leash-pulling by clicking and treating those moments when the leash happens to go slack.
Never push your pet to reach your desired results. Always let your dog do it on their own. If your pet achieves only part of your goal, click anyways. If your dog is responding well to the clicker, shape his behavior by asking a little more from him. This means when your pet is doing a good behavior, wait a few extra seconds longer and then click. Train him to sit longer, come faster and go further.
What to Do When Your Dog Catches On
Kudos to you and your pet if your dog catches on pretty fast. You will soon see that your dog will do certain acts to get rewarded. This is when you incorporate a cue word or a body signal to the click. This means if you haven't attached a verbal signal or hand signal when you click, ignore his behavior until he begins associating the cue word to the behavior. In other words, don't click and reward your dog when the cue word wasn't given.
Never ever use the clicker for bad punishment. This will undo all your effort and your dog's training. Don't scold or use any forms of correction training with the clicker.
Clicker training is such an effective and amazing way to teach good behaviors in your pets. It's also a way to strengthen you and your dog's relationship.

Dr. Venus Nicolino: You Have To Make Yourself Available To Find Good Relationships
The idea of making yourself more desirable by making yourself less available doesn't make a lot of sense when you think about it. After all, Juliet would have plunged a premature dagger into the heart of her romance with Romeo if she hid in her room rather than go out on her balcony. The end of Sleepless in Seattle shifts from "awww" to "aw, no" if one of the two main characters skips the trip to the Empire State Building. As these examples from fiction show, making yourself
