People with tinnitus often get depressed and suffer from mental or emotional anguish. To effectively manage tinnitus and live normally, you have to learn to relieve the stress of tinnitus. The following tips can be very helpful.
Learn about tinnitus. Knowledge is power. The more you know about your condition, the more you can have peace of mind and control over it. You do not have to be clueless about your condition, ask the right people and read more to educate yourself about tinnitus. Understanding what you are going through makes it less stressful to deal with it.
Deep breathing. To relieve the stress of tinnitus, practice deep breathing. This is not only good for your tinnitus but also for your over all health. A good supply or circulation of oxygen makes the mind and the body healthier. Breathe in through your nose and inhale oxygen (your stomach should expand) and slowly breathe out or exhale through your mouth (your stomach should fall). Deep breathing relaxes your muscles and your mind and a great way to relieve stress including the stress of tinnitus.
Yoga. The stress of tinnitus can be relieved with yoga. This activity can be very helpful to relax the muscles and improve circulation. It is best to enroll in a yoga program to avoid injuries and to make sure you are doing it right. Yoga is a great way to relieve stress, enhance blood circulation, improve sleep and it can even improve your moods and self-esteem.
Get physically active. One best way to relieve the stress of tinnitus is to keep a physically active life. Exercise regularly or engage in an enjoyable physical activity or hobby. You can forget about your tinnitus and its stress if you are too engrossed with an enjoyable hobby. Physical activities will not only make you healthier but it will also help you relieve stress and bad moods.
Sound therapy. Using soft calming music can be very helpful to relieve the stress of tinnitus and put tinnitus at the back of your head. With the calming sound in the forefront, tinnitus will become less noticeable. It may take a little experimentation to find the sound that is comfortable and suiting for you but with patience you will eventually find what will work for you. Nature sounds like the sound of water can be very calming and relaxing.
Good sleep. Although tinnitus can interfere with your sleep, you have to try to have a good sleep to relieve the stress of tinnitus. Avoid caffeine before bedtime because it can prevent your from creating a good sleep. Make your bedroom comfortable for good sleeping. Comfortable mattress, pillows and comfortable bedroom temperature are essential for a good sleep. It can be very helpful for your tinnitus to play soft music in your bedroom because total silence will make tinnitus more noticeable.
Seek counseling and professional help. You may need the help of professionals in dealing with the stress of tinnitus. Do not hesitate to seek professional help if you feel you cannot deal with the stress of tinnitus on your own. A cognitive behavioral therapy is a counseling that helps people with tinnitus to alter their negative emotional reaction to the non-stop ringing in their ears. You will also learn to deal with the stress of tinnitus by controlling your physical and emotional reaction to tinnitus. A combination of counseling and tinnitus devices may be necessary to relieve the stress of tinnitus.
Tinnitus is a very disturbing condition to live with but there are ways to manage it and lessen its negative effects in your life.
