Pests are a very common house hold problem everywhere. They are a menace to the human way of life and there is no denying the fact! People, especially women, are terrified of seeing pests roaming around the house. One way of getting rid of pests is to call a professional exterminator or pest controller. Another way of getting rid of these nasty creatures is a do it yourself pest control drive.

There are many pest control supplies and products available in the market. Doing the dirty job yourself has certain merits. It can give you an assurance that the job is well done. It will also help you in saving a few bucks. If you plan to do pest control on your own, you may go to a general store and buy some pest control products available there. Some of the options available to you are:

Insect Growth Regulators (IGR): Insect Growth Regulators are a very safe bet. Though they are toxic, they cause little or no harm to mammals. If you have children or pets in the house, you should not worry about using IGRs. IGRs disrupt the growth cycle of pests. They prevent them from breeding. IF you have mice in the house, this may not work.

Glue Boards: Glue Boards can be a little filthy but they are good if you do not want to kill the rodents or roaches. These glue boards have strong adhesives which are non-toxic. Whenever pests or rodents crawl over the glue boards, they get stuck. You can easily pick up the glue board and discard it outside your home. Usage of glue boards should be avoided if you have pets. If dogs or cats get stuck to glue boards, it can cause a lot of problem. Children should also be kept away from these.

Insecticides: Insecticides can be non-repellent or repellent. You may choose either of the two kinds. They are available in spray form. Spray them on your furniture and storage areas for optimal results. Before you spray insecticides, make sure all your food is covered or preferably moved away from there. Children should not be allowed to enter the room for at least two hours after you have sprayed the insecticide. Cover your nose and mouth with cloth before you start the procedure.

Rodent Control: There are many kinds of rodent control equipment available at all general or hardware stores. You may buy one of these rat traps etc to get rid of pesky rodents in your house. Apart from several pest control products available in the market, you may also consider using bait. Bait can be poisoned too. It is very effective in getting rid of all kinds of pests.
