The recession, doom & gloom, and the ever present media force feeding us all of this bad news is at an all time high. Every time I pick up a newspaper (which isn’t too often these days), I’m blown away with the strong, fear-based message. One of AOL’s most recent headlines was “Fear Among US Citizens is Growing.”

Well, duh, of course people are scared after they ingest a steady diet of anxiety provoking articles and scary headlines!

Switch on the TV, radio, or Internet and you will get the “news.” Problem is, it’s like the flu - if you hang around it long enough, you just might catch it!

As entrepreneurs, our business’ life blood depends directly on us. Now more than ever before, our attitudes are so important to the sustainability of our businesses! “If you think you can or you think you can’t, either way you are right!” Henry Ford knew what he was talking about!

Here are 3 Quick Tips to keep your mind focused on what truly matters so your business thrives, no matter what:

1. Declare to yourself and for the sake of your business that you aren’t going to participate in the recession. Period. No more complaining, getting caught up in water cooler conversations about how bad things look, and getting scared. Fear will shut you down. Trying to sell your best product when you are coming from this head space will NOT get you that new client.

2. Drastically cut down on your intake of sensationalistic, repetitive, negative, fear-based TV news, newspapers, and magazines. Don’t worry, you’ll still be informed. Most of the news we hear is repeated over and over again. You won’t be missing a thing. Instead, decide to use your time to learn a new web application or sales training program or go take a walk! Anything that you deem as productive IS and will move you forward on your goals.

3. Upgrade your capacity for success and tune up your own success mindset. Are your thoughts overwhelmingly positive and constructive or are they laced with fear, worry, and anxiety? Most people are shocked when they start to pay more attention to how they think and how they talk. Time to be ruthlessly kind to yourself. Stop that inner critic dead in her tracks. Replace negative thoughts with more positive, better feeling thoughts and you’ll quickly lift yourself from a funky mindset that depletes your spirit and your bank account.
